Memory leak problem : A fix !
How to know if you have a memory leak issue

You experience sutters and lags (Not FPS drop) after 15min to 1h of playing, at a point when the game becomes unplayable, sometimes waiting 3-5 seconds in a freeze state before coming back.

If you monitor your RAM and HDD usage while playing, you first see your RAM usage going up, and up, and up...Then the HDD usage goes up to 100% and the game starts stuttering like hell.

What is it due too

Memory leak is a software problem that "Polute" your RAM with memory she won't erase while playing. When all the RAM is used, you ever get a crash with the error "Low memory" from windows (Meaning you don't have a page file created), OR, if you have the page file activated, the HDD will create an emulation of RAM to try to help, wich will stop the game from crashing. But then, as the HDD is busy dealing with memory leaking that polutes him, he's not able to give to GTAV.exe the data needed for him to run; Resulting into stutter while loading new datas (Apparition of cars/NPCs, or activation of new sounds like shooting/running into a car/object).

The fix

I'm really not sure if it's really the fix we've been waiting for, but right now, I played for multiple hours and didn't had any stutter with this method, and the RAM usage was capped at 80% instead of going up to 97% like it was doing before.

Please, try it if you have the issue : It only takes a couple of minutes to put in place, and if it works for all of you, it could make the day of those who have the same problem.

1) Download the free trial version of CacheBoost at http://www.systweak.com/CacheBoost/Download/ . It is free for 30 days, and malware/adware free (Tested myself.) It is basically a program that forces the memory to "purge" every couple of second from what I understand, avoiding pollution via memory leak from the game.

(This software doesn't ask for any mail adress or anything. There is not even a pirateware in the installer, like in utorrent, for exemple. I think it's safe as it is.)

2) Install and run it. Go to "Settings", put "Custom settings". Then go to "Advance". I put my maximum cache at 2Gb, "Based on avalaible memory" on 90%, and "Check for system cache every..." at 15seconds.

And right now, it seems to be working for me. The solution actually comes from how players tried to overcome the memory leak of GTA IV. Here's the link : http://gtaforums.com/topic/406712-gta-iv-memory-leak-workaround/

30 days of trial are more than enought to enjoy while waiting for a patch, I think. I hope this is a good fix.

Please, tell me if it works for ya. It's working for a couple of people on Reddit already : http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV_PC/comments/33586e/memory_leak_problem_maybe_a_fix/ . Else, I'm gonna have to search a bit more.

And to all of you, of course, I wish you a nice day. See you in Los Santos maybe !

@Raquel : Some persons seems to be lucky enought to play for hours before seeing any stuttering issue. But for some of us, it happens in 5-15min. I think you'd agree that it's not playable this way.

Plus, try to download CacheBoost before being all condescendant. I'm the first one to be mefiant about little softwares like this one, but I'm really surprised at how not-annoying it is. No mail adress required, no adware/malware in the installer. It's pretty cool.

well, i ve got random crashes - sometimes in 5 min, sometimes in 50.
got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ big 32 GB memory.
game uses only 2 of them.
but i will try that

If you got crashes with the indication "Low memory", it may be a memory leak issue.

If you don't got this indication, I don't think your problem is related, sadly...Don't hesitate to post on rockstar support to make your problem known.

What OS are you on Keyru? That app looks a bit outdated (most recent OS thats listed on its page is Vista :p). I'm hesitant to install anything that actively modifies mem values - hell, a lot of anti-cheats will pick that up and ban for it (Punkbuster etc.)
Keyru Apr 20, 2015 @ 9:41am
I'm on Windows 8.1, latest updates.

Yeah, I don't know if this type of software could be spotted by anti-cheats; Howhever, I have to say that since this morning, I stopeed using CacheBoost for a test...And I don't got any stutter anymore.

I also disable the Steam Overlay via Steam => Settings => Ingame. I don't know wich one had an effect, but my RAM doesn't go up anymore, and stays at about 3Gb or less.

That's a very weird issue, and I'm a bit confused right now. I still advise you to try (I tested GTAO with Cacheboost, everything went fine), and uninstall if you want. As I said, there is no malware in it, and nothing is asked from ya. Hope it'll help : )

A patch came yesterday ? Man, I didn't even saw it. But it would explain why it's working so fine today !

Off Topic question for the OP:

I don't have any issues, just reading various posts. What is your primary language? I'm just curious. I like how you refer to the RAM as a she, and the HDD as a he. I'm not making fun, I think its a cute carryover from people whose languages have a grammatical gender whereas english has none.
