low FPS and low GPU usage

i have a 2600k @ 4.5 and a 970 , my frames are dropping like crazy , and the game stutters really hard , the gpu doesn t go above 50% usage while the cpu is hovering between 70/90 % . I locked my frames to 60 and v-sync from NCP and it solved nothing , when i drive i get 30 fps -.- . Not even maxed out , if i lower the details i still get these drops , and i know a friend with lower config than mine , and he runs the game perfectly . dafuq

Did anyone find out what is causing this? Beacuse I have the same problem and my rig is similar, i7 2600k 4.5ghz and gtx 980...getting 60-70% gpu usage...

vsync is your problem, turn it off

Lowest I've seen is 44 fps. Settings pretty much maxed. My comp specs:

He is actually right..

turn ingame the VSYNC off and activate it on your Nvidia Control panel. I prefer adaptive.

I see you don't understand lads, my gpu usage is low, I have v-sync off which should make my gpu usage 99-98% all the time, but for some reason I have 57-80% which results in low fps, this guy gets much better framerate due his awsome gpu usage and he has a weaker rig than mine:

Just wondering if this is after the patch? Because we all got ♥♥♥♥ fps after the patch so yeah, and i also have the low gpu usage after the patch.

I have Gtx 780s in SLI and I dont have low gpu usage.. they both stay in the 95% range... I get a bit of stuttering and lost at least 25% of fps since the patch tho... :(

make sure the priority of the gtav.exe is high for some reason in my computer it start in low priority possible in task manager

You could try a couple of things:
1. control panel>Power Options>set to High performance.
2. nvidia control panel>Manage 3D settings>Power management mode>set Prefer Maximum Performance.

Nothing seems to make it better, it didn't run like crap when I played it last week on release....

I have same cpu and R9 280 but gpu usage is about 70-80.. and fps drop because of low gpu usage :S

v-sync doesn t matter on or off, cause my frames are going downn to 30 , so the GPU should work to keep it to 60

v-sync [for me] has never crippled my performance. Still well above 100 FPS with it on and everything else high/ultra except MSAA and my specs (of what did give) are slightly worse then yours.
