Question about winning races to unlock upgrades.
It says we have to win races with certain vehicle classes to unlock upgrades for similar vehicles. Does that mean I have to place first to consider a win or what?

Yes. But you can also just start some races on your own finish them and then it counts as a win.

Just find a very short track. set one round and drive it with one friend. Do that as long as both of you have everything unlocked ;)

You can do any race with another person. They all count, be it land race, see race or air race. The best track is Criminal Records. As mentioned above, set it to one lap, you can finish it in under 30 seconds using the Super class.

Are you sure? It specifically says I have to win races in the muscle class to get muscle car unlocks.

Yeah, I'm sure. Tested it my yourself on PS4. All you need is win 44 races to unlock all car tuning mods. If you want to unlock more paint colors, you need to win 6 more. Criminal Records is land race track anyway.

P.S.
Some car paints require you to win an air race and rally race.

I'm wondering the same thing. Does it count as a win if you place second or third in a race? That's usually all I can get because a lot of public hosts like to take their fully upgraded supercars to races and not give people without those fully upgraded supercars (myself) a chance. I want to GET those fully upgraded supercars, but they won't let me because they're too busy using their own fully upgraded supercars!!

No , you unlock the car parts,paints and stuff only when you get 1 first .
As others said , find a person who is willing do with you race , and exchange wins , once you , once him .

You have to get 1st, but all races count regardless of class - it's worded poorly.

Most upgrades you can unlock with any class ,but there some upgrades witch you need to win in rally class, fortunately not many .
