GTA defaults to windowed mode; Unable to stay in fullscreen
FIX: This problem had me scratching my head however, what fixed it for me was closing TeamViewer. Make sure you "exit the application" via the task bar. If you have GTA open at the same time, you will need to restart the game.

Not sure if the video card matters or not, but I'm currently using an EVGA Superclocked GTX 980.

Try Alt+Enter (the universal key combo to toggle full screen). It works for me with this game.

If you haven't figured this out by now, make a txt file called commandline and place it in your gta 5 install directory which is in steamapps/common. Once the commandline txt is in, open it and put -fullscreen inside it. This will force fullscreen whenever you play the game. Making it impossible to switch back to windowed until you delete or remove -fullscreen in the file.

Thanks for the settings file tip. :)

The workarounds we are forced to do are ridiculous.

This is the first game who make me close RealVNC to work on fullscreen, the mirror driver is not even installed.

They had so much time to launch a near bug free PC game and they didn't find out the monitor modes are not working well.

How many betatesters they had on PC?

2 with one monitor each?

I know with TeamViewer specifically there is a double arrow displayed near the top right of each window. If you click on the double arrow you are given the opportunity to present the application via TeamViewer. I think this is what causes the issue. As I noted in my original post, the fix is to simply close TeamViewer completely so that it's not running at all.

You could also try disabling the quick button without closing TeamViewer but I have not tested this to see if the problem is still resolved. See this link for more info: bit.ly /1OonZzo (without space)

I take it you tried the TeamViewer fix (if you have TeamViewer)?

I posted the solution in a new thread.

GTA V is dumb, is not able to switch resolutions and Hz on launch.

If the Hz (and i guess the res) are not EXACTLY the same as desktop res and Hz it launch in windowed.

I must set 59Hz 1080 in desktop and in game to avoid this problem if desktop is at 60 Hz it launch in windowed mode.

For me this is a stupid bug due to a short (and very basic) betatesting phase on PC.

This worked for me, thanks so much.
I use Teamviewer as well and I noticed the little arrow at the top right corner of nearly every window that I opened.

I can't believe that this simple fix could be a solution to an annoying problem that almost made me stop playing GTA V (especially with modding and that chaos!).
