Is there a way to change the file save location for the editor?
The replay video cache defaults to my SSD which is nearly full and only has my Operating System on it. Is there a way to specify a different drive for the replay files cache to save to?

The only potential solution I've found so far is a windows workaround via a "symbolic link junction" which I found via this post on the Rockstar forums: https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/communities/public/questions/203460467-GTA-5-PC-Video-editor-change-file-save-location

Here is the content from the link above for the lazy:

1.GTA V creates a folder here:
"C:\Users\user\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\videos"
for all your clips, go find your own and make a note of it.

2.Next create a video folder where you want the clips to "be" saved(another drive etc)
For example we will use: "G:\GTAVideo"

3.Move everything currently from the GTA V videos folder to your new folder

4. Delete the original GTA V videos folder

5.Now to create the symbolic link
goto start->type “cmd” right click the command prompt icon and click run as administrator.

Type the following but first alter to your own requirements

mklink /J “C:\Users\admin\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\videos” “G:\GTAVideo”

Hit Enter, Close, Launch GTA V!

Things to note:
You may notice a new icon in place of the old videos folder if you ever want to revert the changes just right click delete this icon. Also the size usage limit in GTA V may go by the initial location of the saves, not the new location.

I haven't tried the solution above yet so I don't know if it actually works or not. Someone please tell me that this is just an option in the GTA menus that I have overlooked. PLEASE! :)

I found this method but really this should be an option within GTA V. I should just be able to specify a new default location for replay and video files to cache.

Redirect a folder in Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/redirect-folder-new-location#1TC=windows-7

It was the same problem in GTA IV. Really annoying. I don't think there were a solution either

I'm not trying to be whiny but changing the default save location is basic functionality in most software. I basically have no other problems with GTA V other than some lag while riding in cars that another player is driving in GTA Online. Considering the problems others seem to be having I guess I'll just count myself lucky that my particular complaint can be solved with a relatively simple workaround.

I agree, it should be a simple setting where you can enter the path.
I'm just happy my game runs fine ^^ so instead of the ingame recording i use shadow play where i can set my path to where i want it.

Yeah, I have an Avermedia HD Gamer Live capture card that works fine but I like the director capabilities of the in-game editor. You can compose some really cool shots and then export. It's ery robust but it's just missing this one capability. I just don't want it chewing up My SSD that only has my OS on it. I have a 4TB WD Black for a reason... to store games and video. :)

Same for me ;)
But currently to busy playing the game than 'wasting' my time in the editor ^^
Never played it on console before :ss13ok:

I have less that 5GB of allocatable space because of this and my tiny SSD. Anyone got any leads on how to get around this? I have been struggling to solve this problem since the game launched.

This worked for me. It's the simplest work-around that I have found. I had no idea that you could do this in Windows so not only did it solve my problem... but I learned something. 10/10 Would quantum singularity that quantum singularity in the quantum singularity again... hard.

Change Rockstar Editor Default Save Location

The only way I have found to save your replays and clips etc to another location is to create a symbolic link junction. There will probably be a better fix available soon though I’m not sure what the actual lines are needed in the config.

So what you need to know/do
(note your setup drives etc may be setup another way)

1.GTA V creates a folder here:
“C:\Users\user\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\videos”
for all your clips, go find your own and make a note of it.

2.Next create a video folder where you want the clips to “be” saved(another drive etc)
For example we will use: “G:\GTAVideo”

3.Move everything currently from the GTA V videos folder to your new folder

4. Delete the original GTA V videos folder

5.Now to create the symbolic link
goto start->type “cmd” right click the command prompt icon and click run as administrator.

6. Type the following but first alter to your own requirements

mklink /J “C:\Users\admin\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\videos” “G:\GTAVideo”

7. Hit Enter, Close, Launch GTA V!

Things to note:

You may notice a new icon in place of the old videos folder if you ever want to revert the changes just right click delete this icon. Also the size usage limit in GTA V may go by the initial location of the saves, not the new location.

Have Fun!

I think it worked for me. At beginning I was just making Copy/Paste but got everytime a Syntax Error or something else. So I tried to write all manualy and made me a folder looking like a Shortcut. I think this is might working for me.
