Activation Key GTA V

Sorry for my bad english. Any of you have the same problem?
My friend gifted to me the original game, with 7 dvd, a map of LS and a sheet where, there is the code. Since my DVD player is broken, I thought to activated the key on Steam, and then download it from Steam directly. But I got a nice surprise, Steam does not recognize the key. I checked if I had written bad, I tried with upper and lower case, I removed the dashes, but nothing. Ah in the box, there is only this one key.
Someone can explain if I'm doing something wrong?

The physical copy's activation code is not redeembale on steam. It's only redeemable on http://www.rockstargames.com/ which is Rockstar's official webpage.

Oohhh thank's so much guys, I solved the problem. The procedure is perfectly explained by doggzilla. Active the key, and from their client (175MB), you can download the entire game.
