GTA 5 on GEFORCE GT 540M
Hi is anyone playing this game on a GEFORCE GT 540M?

If so, is it playable?

Or should I just get a better rig before buying?

Thanks for your help. :-)

I would say you probably need a better PC. Of course that's just based on your GPU.

Thanks Zig! :-)

Sigh, I was hoping that this wouldn't be the case.

Ive been to: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com and it says i meet the minimum reqirements for the game.

I just wondered if anyone else with this card could give me some idea as to how the game would actually run and wether it was worth it.

I have not used that card, but looking at the specifications it falls behind the minimum requirements in memory transfer speed and bandwith, and the processor speed is slightly slower.

All laptops are having issue who are having switchable GPUs. nVidia users were able to do the workaround but that workaround didn't worked for AMD users (which includes myself). This game should be able to run on lowest settings for you, gosh I've seen people running on their Intel HD Graphics 3000/4000 on lowest possible settings.

Thanks iZN.

OMG! it plays on a 3000/4000? Kudos to Rockstar! Other game producers should take a leaf.

My rig is reasonably good for a laptop (i7 2670QM, GT 540M, 8GB ram, Win 8.1 64bit) I can play Dying Light, Watchdogs, Far Cry 4 etc. But I know she's on the way out when it comes to the very latest titles.

Thanks again guys for your speedy replies. :-)

I have a GeForce 540 with 1 GB RAM and it has run perfectly with almost 30 hours played. Now, i have to run at the normal settings and set the DirectX to 10.1 (11 is default) in order to play at 1920x1080. I know it is the bottom of the barrel setting, but I don't care. The game is still awesome to look at even at its lowest settings. And my computer is hooked up to a 42" LED TV, and still looks great.

The game has a video RAM slider that tells you how much video RAM you have and how much you are using. You have an option to ignore that, but I have not. I have not had any frame rate drops (V-sync set to half).

Hope this helps

Forgot to mention, all of this is in Story Mode. I was waiting to go into Online Mode once I finished Story Mode, which might take a while. I spend most of my time just driving around and getting into various trouble because, for me at least, that is what a GTA game is all about.

I have a Samsung RF711. Nice laptop too. :0)

Its worth a mention that I have OC'd my card to 1600mhz using this method:

Its also worth mentioning that I have had the laptop apart to apply a good amount of thermal paste to both the GPU and The CPU. As well as ensuring that the heat sinks were clear and free from dust and blockages.

I wouldn't recommend overclocking without first checking your cooling is working as it should.

I'd download some temparature monitoring software like CPU-Z to keep an eye on your temps too.

Mine rarely climb above 68C when OC'd and at full load. :0)

Thanks for your reply.

I was after information concerning the GT 540 Mobile GPU, which is what I have. :0)

I also have a 540m and I can tell you that you won't have any problems running it at all.

I play with a GT 640M and an integrated Intel graphic chip on High with some settings on normal, without MSAA at 40+ FPS. Since I'm playing the game no crashes or issues.
