ERR GFX D3D INIT error?
Ive been playing GTA Online. Ive been repeatedly getting crashes when im in a mission, heist, race, etc.
My rig is mid to high end, and I even set the graphics to modest levels, but I cant seem to isolate the issue, besides the possible issues with other players... it always happens when in a game with others or when everyone on the free mode map is nearby. One time when it was just me and one other guy, right before one crash my teammate was complaining about high ping. It seems to occur when Im around other players; is my game becoming 'overloaded' with info somehow? I cant think of what else it might be.

It's not only an Online issue. I've got around 10 hours game (story mode) time with no issues.

3 days ago I got this error.

I can get to the screen where you choose settings/online/story etc.

When I click Online OR Story or even Benchmark, I get to the first loading screen (with pictures) and then the GTA Loading Icon stops moving. Then I hear the Windows Error Sound and get ERR_GFX_D3D_INIT.

You're going to suggest Google. Really? Like that isn't the first place anyone looks for any problem!

No. They do not work.

go in rockstars gta5 documents folder and make a backup from the settings file, then delete it and start the game

It seems to be GTAV and Online. Both games act the same way; 10-15 min of flawless gameplay then a random freeze and crash with the same damn error message.

I tried resetting everything.
I turned the DX11 Tessalation, AA, and AO off. That allowed me to actually finish an online Heist. But I crashed soon after. I decided to bite the bullet and unistall/install the game all over again.
Havent tried this yet, so Ill let u all know.

I reinstalled GTAV
I turned MSI Afterburner off. (counter-intuitively)
I turned off Ambient Occlusion and Tessaltion on the ingame graphics menu.

Havent crashed in 5 hours. Beat like 3 heists without issue. I dont know which of those things were the issue, but it appears to be.... fixed? (hope Im dont jinx it)

I have this error on my PC as well. But what i did to fix it was to reinstall the directX setup from the GTA5 folder, i forget the exact location of where it is.

but everytime i restart my PC i must reinstall directX for the game to run at all.

i did not underclock my gpu (gtx 560ti) or turn my settings to low.

I have my textures at vhigh, tessellation and ambient at high.

I played a couple sessions that lasted up to 6hrs story/online without any flaws...

I solved this issue by changing it from DirectX 10.1 (what my NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M supports) to DirectX 10 and I stopped having that error when rendering menus (pause, GTAO, etc)

Ok ill install that dx as well. I want to max out my card but I just dont want to crash again especially bc i dont really know the cause. I have everything on High and all the effects are off. The game looks great, but I notice little things that would be fixed by these tweeks.

A lot of discussion about the error, no one has found the exact cause or a sure fire solution.
There are a lot of suggestions with varrying amounts of success.

I reinstalled the rame, so that may have done it, but it appears as though the solution was also manually installing the DXSETUP.exe in the GTA V folder.

I was also running MSI afterburner. I set my GPU to defaults, fan maxed.

I literally have had no issues. Issues fixed? Let me know all.
