'video Memory Exceeded'
I'm a bit confused as to why I can't set settings HIGHER than what GTA V seems to think my graphics card is at.

My GFX card is a NVIDIA GTX 650, CPU is an i7, and I have about 1 GB of Deticated Video RAM, but the GFX card itself, according to CYRI. has about 3.9 GBs of VRAM.

Game runs VERY smoothly on high, but I can't go 1080p or anything. Is there a possible way around it so I can try to push the settings a bit higher until I find a suitable mix between performance and quality? i don't care if I get 30 FPS in the end - game runs fine at 60 FPS, and I KNOW my computer can handle a little bit more. Any help?

In the graphics settings in the menu, right below the video memory indicator, is an option called 'Ignore Suggested Limits'. If you set it to on, you can improve some more settings, but seeing that your game will then use more memory then actually available on your GPU, you could get crashes or other issues.

One of the reasons that your game runs smoothly is probably because your GPU clock is high enough (the amount of megahertz), but that's seperate from the memory. But i would advise you to just try it out, and if it doesn't work: lower the texture quality a bit - because textures are very memory intensive, especially high resolution textures - and then try it again on 1080p. And continue experimenting until you found the golden ratio of quality / performance.

See, here's the really odd thing - I have the Ignore Suggested Limits thing off ( With it on, it wasn't letting me turn my settings up to high, or go past 800x600 resolution). Also, about the 'overclock' thing, I don't think it's overclocking, because my computer still barely makes any sound, like the fans switching to higher speeds to compensate for the load. Maybe it IS overclocking, but my computer's barely breaking a sweat over it, but as it stands, I think either my GTX is only overclocking by a miniscule amount, or this game is just so well optimized that the GTX can handle it easily. I dunno, really. :P

EDIT: Oh, stupid me, you didn't say anything about overclocking. Sorry, it's late at nightm and my brain is kinda mushy. :P

Don't think so - Is there a way to check without cracking open the case?

If your card has 1gb of vram and CYRI says you have 3.9gb vram, CYRI is wrong.

Run Nvidia's "experience" program (you can download here: http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience) and it will show your actual vram available.

Thats odd, i tried it myself, and i have to put all the graphics on low already because of my silly old GPU, but i can play it in 1080p and use 1018MB from 1024MB, and when i put Suggested Limits on, i could increase some quality settings and go above the 1024MB limit.

And with GPU clock i don't mean that it is overclocked: the GPU clock is basically the speed (megahertz) of your GPU that it has when you buy it in the store, so the factory clock speed. What i meant was, that your clock speed (from the factory) is good enough already. Overclocking just means increasing the clock speed, so that it is higher then the factory clock speed ;).

Also, might be a silly question but i made this mistake myself a couple of times: did you press the spacebar after you changed the resolution? Because otherwise it returns to the previous resolution :P.

Thanks for the tip - but Experience doesn't list VRAM under the 'My Rig' tab, unless I'm missing something VERY obvious. As I said, my brain's a bit mushy because it's like, midnight. :P

CYRI is simply seething the total vram available in the system , meaning dedicated vram + shared system RAM . Go to DXDIAG and you're total Vram will be higher because some of it is shared system RAM. For example my brothers got 1.5gb cards but it shows 3gb in DXDIAG.

Basically do you have a regular hard drive or solid state drive. If youre using windows 8/8.1 can go to "this pc", right click your hard drive, and go to properties. Then go to the hardware tab.

Would see something along the lines of "samsung SSD" in the first line or two.

In that case; try

OK, try plan b:

1) Go to control panel

2) Go to appearance and personalization

3) Click adjust screen resolution

4) Click advanced

This screen should show total dedicated vram (which gta5 needs) - ignore any shared values

Yeah, I don't see that - They're marked as 'Standard' or 'Generic', and under System Information, marked as 'Local Fixed Disk'. so, I don't think they're Samsungs - I think they're developed by Microsoft.

Just like Prometheus said, your system doesn't always correctly tell you how much VRAM you have, because they sometimes add some shared RAM and stuff like that. But i can already tell you, the GTX 650 comes standard with 1024MB memory, so the GTA V settings menu is telling you the truth ;).

And the reason that you can't use the extra shared memory in GTA is simple: that memory is just not fast enough compared with the dedicated VRAM on your graphics card :(.

Total Available graphics - 4096 MB
Dedicated Video Memory - 1024 MB

Yep, so you have 1gb to play with - ignore the total available

Spend $300+ on CPU and spend $100 for a GPU, thats retarded. If you went the other way around you'd have twice the performance. an i3 can run this game amazingly
