gtx 970 performance
People with 970s, whats your fps? I think something is wrong with me, because I have this card and i7 4790s+8 gb ram and I'm getting 40-50 fps in city and 30-35 in county witrh everything on ultra (this meaning I have EVERYTHING on ultra, msaax4, tsaa and fxaa, shadows etc).

Any tip? First day with this card, it's awesome overall but tbh expected a solid 60 fps with it.

Whats the best to disable without being graphycally noticeable to gain fps?

Thanks!

Ya, high and normal are good options for grass.

Getting 50-55 with high grass, and no difference to my eyes... such a difference!

Getting better frames here than in Gta IV actually, just tested that :eli:
GTA 4 was a terrible port while GTA 5 was a polished version (and becuase of this delayed several times), not a "port" at all. Of course, the core and content is the same but you get my point I think :D

Got everything at very high, no AA and 1080p... i get between 70 and 144 fps.

"We based our recommended spec on hardware that we knew could comfortably achieve 1080P resolution at 60fps." They didn't say what settings though. Although recommended is not low settings. So at the very least it was suposed to be medium (which is actually replaced with high in this game)
Thats what I guessed. I claim this is based on "average" settings which would be "medium" indeed. A gtx 660 should push this to 60 frames on 1080p, sounds fair.

If you want GTA at anything higher than typical max settings, like more than 2xMSAA or a higher resolution than 1080p at 60fps, go Titan X.

SLI will do fine for 1440p at Very High + Ultra Settings incl. MSAA.

I have (depending on the environment and onscreen action) 60-80 stable frames on my rig @ 2560*1440 with up to ~ 7700 MB Video Memory after some playing in the settings:
- Very High/Ultra gfx options
- MSAA x 4 (x8 would exceed my Video Memory and I just leave it at x4)
- Reflection MSSA x 4
- Very High Tessellation
- with the exception of Ultra Res Shadows I maxed all Advanced Settings (Long Shadows, High Detail Streaming while flying activated and and maxed Extended Distance Scaling and Extended Shadows Distance).

So after all,I only reduced or left out 2 gfx features.
My Rig:
970 SLI, i7-i5930K, 16 GB DDR4

Latest nvidia GTA V ready and SLI Drivers are installed from yesterday,
SLI works absolutely smooth and the 850 Samsung SSD is MVP, the loading times are a joke compared to the consoles.

You do know your Vram DOES NOT STACK IN SLI. The game reports it wrong. your Vram is MIRRORED NOT DOUBLED.

@ Topic anywhere between 24 and 65 with med/high settings but I refuse to switch off my other 2 displays so no doubt this is the cause of such a bad performance @ 1920x1080.

As for R* Rec system specs I have better and it still runs badly in all honesty there is no way it will run at a perfect 60 fps @ 1080p unless you go down to 1 screen with a 970

I just quoted the game settings, dear steam bro :D I know VRAM is shared in SLI. The game adds the gfx settings up to an "overall" VRAM demand.

Shadows of Mordor did sth similiar. I was playing the 6 GB VRAM Ultra Texture Settings with 970 SLI as well, without any issues or problems @ 1440p

Naa a 980GTX SC EVGA will run this flawless maxxed settings of everything on a 1080p screen.

after 2 days of messing with settings this is what i feel is teh perfect combination among performance and quality.

lets start with the Graphics menu 1920x1080 Borderless window

FXAA on
msaa off
txaa off
vsync on
pause game on focus loss off
population density 2 tics from max
population variety max
distance scalling lowest/zero/all the way off
texture quality= very high
shader qualtiy very high
shadow quality=high
refelction quality=very high
reflection msaa off
water quality very high
particles quality very high
grass quality very high
soft shadows nvidia pcss
post fx very high
motion blur off
in game depth of field off
anisotropic filtering x8
tesselation high

Advanced settings
long shadows off
high res shadows on
high detail streaming while flying off
extended distance scalling off

The biggest hitters are Extended distance scaling and distance scalling grass quality and msaa

I get 55-60 fps while messing around in the woods mostly 60
40-55 while speeding around (like every other game like this moving at fast rates of speed cause some stutter0
45-60 fps while it is raining.

The thing with this game is that the scenarios change so rapidly its tough to say i get this fps becuase one mintue i am crusing down an ally and then next im out shooting ♥♥♥♥ while running. But for what its worth this seems to give the most seamless quality with very minimal noticable performance loss

Have you tried overclocking your card? I got some fps from overclocking my card. I downclock when i dont need it and forgot to set it when i first launched then remembered

You obviously didn't think this through.

If you want GTA5 at nearly the highest settings at 1080p 60fps, get a 970.
If you want GTA5 at 1080p 60fps at the highest settings and possibly the lowest MSAA get a 980.
If you want GTA at anything higher than typical max settings, like more than 2xMSAA or a higher resolution than 1080p at 60fps, go Titan X.

i have a 980 with everything turned on (besides advanced setting and depth of field due to my hate for it) and it runs at a solid 60fps everywhere.

I have an 980 and I'm lucky to maintain 55fps with high settings.

You only need to adjust 2 or 3 Settings. Liker others said, Shadows. MXAA and Distance Scaling need slights cuts and you should be good to go for 1080p Very High+ if the rest of your rig is somewhat fresh :)

Asus Strix 970 No FXAA or MSAA, everything else is maxed. I get constant 60fps no matter what. It dips to 58 sometimes, but I get 0 lagg.

Monitor is set to 120hz lightboost. I tried to keep the AA on, but I cannot stand lag, ever.

I might mention that I OC my video card while playing the game. I found that it is a must to try and squeeze performance. I expected the port to be worse to be honest. Remember GTA 4?

I think I have exacly your setup, and same performance. I think it's the best combination too.
About overclocking the card... don't the 970 4 gb come overclocked out of the box? Oo
I'm really tech noob, not really into overclocking hehe. I'm actually very happy with the card, it's an immense jump coming from a r7 240.
