GTA ONLINE PC KEEPS CRASH ON CHARACTER CREATION

So i've been trying to get into GTA Online, but when I select the prisoner from the line-up, and he/she starts walking, the game freezes. After a few seconds it unfreezes and sees me into the next room, but as the prisoner stands still the game freezes again. It has once had the menu show up, but still freezes soon after. When this freeze happens the game crashes moments later.

Definitely not running KNM (never even had it installed). Only vaguely strange thing I can see in my firewall is GTA V is in there twice, with one instance only ticked for public. Will play with it and see what happens.

Finally fixed it. Sadly, despite a redownload and reinstall, updating all drivers, checking network settings and running the game in a few different graphic settings, it wasn't until I re-downloaded and reinstalled a second time that it worked.

on character creation i would click edit and then i would hear 3 windows dings and then all i would see was my desktop so after a few days of this i updated video drivers, i verified file integrity then i noticed there was a bunch of windows updates that needed installing so i did that and the computer restarted and after all that it let me play online for 2 days with no problems at all till sudenly out of nowhere it got super laggy and then gta5 stopped responding and now when i try to go back online i get the same 3 windows dings and back to desktop again

ok now if i want to play online i have to restart my computer EVERY time befor starting the game or else it crashes

Finally Fixed, if you have trainer or mod, cut it to somewhere else if you want to play online!

The possible fixes so far are:
- Make sure Killer Network Manager is turned off or GTA V is set to high priority.
- Alt-tab in the last second before it freezes, keep it like that for a while, then alt-tab back in.
- Make sure you don't have active mods.
- If all else fails, uninstall and redownload.

I would like to point out that this thread was made before the Scripthook even existed. That was not the reason our games were crashing.

So just in case anyone even cares at this point, I had this issue too and after trying to verify the files a few times and trying to repair the game files with rockstar's own installation tool and trying the alt-tab method (which all did not fix the issue), the one thing that did help was removing my mods from the gtav directory (I moved mine into a subfolder just outside the gtav folder, ready to be reinstalled).

TL;DR/Conclusion: try removing mods from the GTAV directory, It fixed the issue for me.
