THIS FIX WORKED FOR ME! (documents>Rockstargames>GTAV>settings)

I had a very difficult time setting up and playing GTA V. But now it works!

I was shown by some other steam player how to do it. basically he wrote that there was a bug in the game's DXversion and it would glitch people out of the game's intro screen (the one with the police stars/flashing lights/sirens and R* logo) and crash it back to desktop.

What you have to do is go into your Rockstar Games folder in Documents, Go into the GTA V folder, and open the Settings file.

There you have to read all the way down to where you see <DX_Version value="2" />
and change it to <DX_Version value="1" />

NEXT...EXIT STEAM ,SHUT OFF YOUR COMPUTER, AND THEN REBOOT IT.

Once you get the desktop up and running again, log back online into Steam, and start up/play GTA V.

It worked for me, but only after exiting Steam, shutting off the computer and restarting everything up again.

Then you should get past the logo intro (which was still buggy for me) and into the loading story/logging into Social Club screens.

You might want to also run the GTA5.exe and GTAVLauncher.exe files in compatibility set for Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and both as Administrator, I found those things helped as well.

When you finally get into the opening scene in the bank robbery, you can pause the game, go to settings, and tweek the graphics to your likeing... just be carefull about the "windowed" setting, it seemed to crash my game and in order for me to play it again, I had to go into that settings file that I mentioned above and set windowed "1" to windowed "0"... reboot... and restart everything up.

I hope that this helps you all, I went to bed at 4:30AM trying to figure out how to get my game to work... and honestly I was getting mighty grumpy.

I think that the MAX PAYNE 3 Team did a great job optimizeing the game play... the only problems seem to be the bugs which will have to get fixed soon in order to make this game work for everybody.

It's an .XML file not a folder and you have to go into your Documents folder... then into Rockstar Games folder... then into the GTA V folder... then you'll see an .XML file that says SETTINGS.

thats nice... now how do you get the launcher to launch in the first place so it generates the settings file....

I redownloaded the whole game and it had the same problem... It just shows a windows "has stopped responding" error before the launcher even shows no matter what.. I've tried disabling antivirus, firewall, deleting appcache, downloading from rockstars site download, compatability mode, disabling graphics card in device manager before launching, updated to new nvidia drivers yesterday, etc.

I tweaked some of the other entries in the settings files and it also fixed the infinite loading screen issue.

Same thing for me, I tired tweaking the settings file again and changed it to "read-only" and it worked again. Though I'm stuck at infinit eload screen again.
