ERROR: Please run Grand Theft Auto V using PlayGTAV.exe
My game won't even start. I click "Play", I choose Online or Singleplayer, then my mouse loads for a little, then it just stops. If I run GTAV.exe from the Steam Directory, I get an error saying:

"Please run Grand Theft Auto V using PlayGTAV.exe"
I don't have PlayGTAV.exe in my directory, and I verified the integrity of the game cache without any error.

I'm using an Asus Notebook - Asus ROG G751JY
Specs:

Windows 8.1 64-bit
Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU @ 3.30GHz
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4GB
256GB SSD
1TB HDD

GTA V is installed on my SSD.

I've restarted Steam multiple times.
I've restarted my laptop multiple times.
I've registered my game at https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/activate
I've verified the integrity of the game cache.
I've updated to the latest NVIDIA driver for my 980.
I've masturbated
I've died.
I've resurrected and masturbated again.
I've ran out of options.

I'm going to kill myself soon. Please send a team of monkeys to help.

Yeah I have the same problem.
There's onlyh one known fix for it, which is: "Open device manager, go to display adapters, and disable your nvidia device so only the intel card is enabled. After launching the game re-enable the nvidia card quickly. The game will then work. Seems like there's a compatibility problem with mobile nvidia cards."
Didn't work for me, but it did for many others, so give it a shot.

I disabled my on board graphic card, ran the game, and then *quickly* enabled my card again after hitting play.
Not a single fu♥♥ happens.
I can't even get the launcher up.

You are supposed to manage to open the launcher, after disabling the card, and then, once the game is open, you re-enable it.

im getting this same issue while using in home streaming. Anyone know of a fix.? The solution above is not relevent for streaming to another room in the house... =/

I also have great trouble with this when using home streaming. GTA works really bad, one of the following things happen:
Black screen only, launcher crashing (decribed in first post of this thread), loading forever, steam crashing (!).

Whatever, I may have found a workaround:
1. Install tightvnc to control the server/host
2. Open VNC connection and make sure no applications have open windows
3. Right click on desktop background in the far left (or right) area of the desktop so the menu shows.
4. Close VNC (while menu is still showing)
5. Launch GTA. The whole desktop will now show during loading (not just the splash screens) and for some reason this makes the game start. However: It seems to fall out of full screen mode into windowed mode but that can be adjusted once the game is started.

Check also hardware encoding is active for the server/host for home streaming (advanced options). It seems to be automatically unticked if GTA crashes or steam crashes.
