It means the required Vidoe memory Excededs what your GPU has

Your game is trying to use more gfx ram than your gffx card apparently has by the sound of it, try lower some settings to get it "green "

It means you need to lower some settings, You don't have enough video memory!

never upgrade your gpu for just the videomemory
just lower your texture settings and maybe some AA settings

It doesn't mean anything, if you are fine with the FPS you are getting.

it might cause stuttering / instabilty / crashes

If you have a super fast system you might not notice any issues, BUT for most systems this would likely affect performance and/ or stability noticeably as swapping/ reloading/ unloading and such would be bound to happen a lot which would strain weaker systems under load.

With your SSD, CPU and enough RAM it might just work.

So if you don't notice any issues you would not have to lower the settings, still might run into stuttering or slowly streaming in of stuff here and there, just play and see what happens. In general it is recommended to stay within the VRAM limit of your card tho.

you can get 770/780 with 4 or 6gb of ram. just know that running sli does not double you vram. the vram of the entire sli setup is dependant on the main sli car (so if your main sli card was 4gb, you would have 4gb of ram) each card works independently on an sli setup.

with my 770 the way i have it set up is dx 11, texture very high, shadows high, grass ultra, relection very high, 4x mxaa reflection, water very high, particle variation all the way down. anything that doesn't impact vram turn all the way up or on, same as in the advanced settings. looks phenom

you can go for gtx 770sli for 2x more video memory but u need 600 watt+ power supply to support that:)

I have 2GB of RAM and my settings set to 2600 MB memory use. I have not seen a single crash yet, nor any "instabilities" and I cannot determine any less stuttering with the settings below the treshhold.
