Crazy CPU Usage and Overheating
What options should I turn down in the Graphical Setting to achieve less CPU usage? I keep getting warnings of my CPU getting close to overheating.
I got an AMD FX-8350 8-core which litterally has no issues with an other game. I figure it might be draw distance and population in the game but want to make sure.

Hi.

I have exactly the same problem. My CPU FX 8370 E normally never exceeds 50 ° C in any game, but with GTAV the temperatures rise up to 70 ° C with a 100% usage, this is not normal at all, there really is a problem.

sorry for my bad English.

Agreed. The only setting I've found to normalize the CPU temps is to Vsync at half. I know this is not a good option, but the only one I've found that works for now. Odd thing is that my GPU isn't near high heat levels with most settings at max, but CPU is taking an abnormal hit even with occlusion off.
I am wondering the same thing. I have the problem while driving it shoots up CPU usage to 100% and its getting annoying and causing building to load slower
Thanks for your help, I try to disable Vsync but whitout succes, again CPU usage to 100 % and 70 °C..

@ kariminator: Try setting vsync at "half" in game, not "on" or "off". That will atleast let you play without the heat issue until it is narrowed down what exactly is causing the CPU hit (many rumours but I've found nothing concrete or varifiable yet).

Also had problems. Check out this : http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV_PC/comments/32p08l/how_to_lower_your_cpu_usage/

Especially a batch file with this code should help:

start steam://rungameid/271590
timeout 60
taskkill /F /IM gtavlauncher.exe
wmic process where name="GTA5.exe" CALL setpriority "high priority"

Disable the turbo mode in bios this will limit the fx 8350 to 4 Ghz instead of 4.2
That will definitly safe you a few degrees. If it's not enough I'd invest in more cooling.
I got the same CPU and mine sticks around 60 °C max in GTA 5. I also undervolted my cpu a little but you shouldn't bother doing that if you aren't experienced with the bios.

You can get these monster chips under control easily if you know what you're doing...

Guys, I have an AMD FX-9590 processor. It's cooled under water, but it still hits low 50's when all 8 of it's cores are fully loaded. The behaviour is perfectly normal for this processor (and also for the high end Intel i7's). When you load a processor to 100%, it will use more power and run hotter.

You've probably never play games up until now that uses multi-core CPU's effectively. I get very high CPU load and can hear the fans ramp up in GTA V - This also happens in Titanfall. It's game dependent. You can run processor stress tools too, like Prime95 - You'll see your FX processor hit high temps and load with that too. Again, this is perfectly normal.

The temp in the 2nd post of 70C is not so good - The chips recommended thermal cap is 62C, and after that it will clock throttle. I highly recommend you get a better CPU cooler or check your case airflow if it's that hot. The AMD provided CPU cooler and fan is junk, and I never recommend their use. Your not damaging your processor at all, but it may run a little slower to stay within upper temperature limits.

Just making sure you read geekl33tgamer's post because it's 100% true and very smart.

If you're experiencing heat issues try dusting your components with compressed air. If this doesn't solve your problem then you will need to invest in a new CPU cooler.

FX-6300 @4.8Ghz. Yes, the load is high (70%) but not at 100%. There is definitly something wrong with your game. My temps stay at 50-60°C too (on water). I read that about this batchfile too. So you should try it.

Rofl, i have same CPU OC to 4.4ghz 45celsius in GTA

Thank you very much, it seems to work, CPU usage is now 69% is temepratures 56 ° C, it is really strange that the synchronization such an impact on the CPU.
Again thank you for this tip.:peace:

It's regarding specific chips, nothing to do with dust or the need for alternative cooling methods. Please understand that those not experiencing issues do not have the same chipsets as those that are experiencing the issue.

Just disable the turbo mode in bios instead of changing graphic settings.
Obviously your chip will get less load if you're limiting your FPS ;-;
I doubt you even know how bios looks so if you wanna actually learn something about pc's and properly manage your hardware do what I say.

It will have nothing at all to do with the chipsets used on the motherboard. If your refering to each CPU being different, then again you are mistaken. All of the current AMD FX-8 and FX-9 series processors are all fabricated using AMD's Piledriver core architecture.

Their power use, thermal limits and throttling behaviour is identical acorss all versions. The AMD stock cooler is bad, and if your overclocking the processor on it you are just making the heat problem worse. The more clock speed and load, the more voltage the processor needs. This extra power expels itself as heat.

Do some research on AMD's processor design and how TDP is calculated and why it is important. I'm not talking nonsense here, smh.
