(Solved) GTA V Crashes at launch but only when it is focused

Most users here seem to have issues with the launcher. Well my launcher works and the game launches, then immediately crashes. Safemode doesn't help either.

BUT i just discovered that if I had some window in focus (dragging it or doing something in it) just as the game is launching, it starts in windowed mode and works in the background. It goes all the way to the display calibration screen. As soon as I refocus the game though, it crashes.

My PC meets all the specifications. I updated the drivers for my GTX 650 Ti and reset all settings from the nvidia control panel and have no clue what to do now. Any ideas?

Well turns out I had a USB gamepad plugged in and GTAV got freaked out by it. Unplugged it and working now!

I'm now getting this issue and just noticed that it loads if I have a different window in focus and crashes the moment I bring GTA to the foreground, however its nothing to do with a gamepad :( Did anyone else ever come up with anything related to this?

so what do you do if the only other usb devices you have plugged in are your mouse and keyboard and it keeps crashing? even when not focused it crashes for me at the splash screen

I don't believe it, I thought it was the oddest thing that my game crashed only when it was in the foreground, and lo and behold it was my gamepad. Well done OP! Thanks for updating the thread!

Holly ♥♥♥♥. Thanks Fux, idk why, idk how, ♥♥♥♥, id even know how it makes sense, but unplugging my PS3 Wireless adapter solved the crashing issue.

Great, i have an old PXN flight stick, and after I unpluged it, the crash just gone. Thanks a lot for saving my day, and many others I suppose.

None of this works, I removed my xbox pad from my devices, unplugged my microphone, my webcam, literally everything except mouse and kb. I have the exact same issue as OP but the solution used has done nothing.

Please send help, its almost Christmas. Where tf is Santa.

post your windows error report

right click Start - Event Viewer - Windows Logs - Application

scroll through logs till u find red error log for gta v, right click - properties or double click on it and select 'copy'

then u can paste text in thread

I found the solution somewhere on the internet that I don't remember but the game will crash on focus if you have some incompatible device plugged in.
In my case it was an off-brand USB controller. Once I removed it the game worked just fine.
