Complete error: "The Social Club failed to load due to an incomplete installation (code 4). Please exit the game and re-install the latest version of the Social Club: https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/articles/204075496"
I've re-installed (as admin) Social Club using the latest version provided by a manual link here:
https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200146066-Manual-Link-to-Social-Club-Application-Download?flash_digest=0765a6e18fc1c8cb2a60414bd52c5ae163553915
Re-installing social club multiple times does not work. Additionally, the support link given in the error message above does not contain helpful information.
Verification of GTA V game cache does not fix it.
The last thing to try is re-installing the game from scratch... this completely ruined my launch experience!
Prerequisites:
GTA V is installed through Steam
Social Club 1.1.5.6 is installed _somewhere_
Step 1: Find where GTA V is looking for Social Club
- start GTA V and receive Code 4 error as usual; close out the error window
- find Social Club install directory and change folder name to "Social Club2"
- start GTA V and receive Code 1 error (can't find Social Club)
If you did not receive Code 1 error but got Code 4 error instead, then the directory you renamed is not the Social Club installation that the game is looking for. Find the actual one, rename it as stated above, and run the game until you get Code 1.
Once you found the proper Social Club directory, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Get the proper Social Club folder from a friend
Yep. This is how I did it - my installed Social Club was ~70mb, while my friend's folder (the one which gives him Code 1 error if he renames to produce the error) was ~90mb.
- copy the proper Social Club folder from a friend where your own is (which should now be renamed to "Social Club2" anyway, so no need to overwrite anything)
My proper directory, in which GTA V was looking for Social Club, is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club
That might not be the same for you. My friend's directory (from whom I copied the Social club folder) was the non x86 one:
C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club
It all depends on your unique installation of GTA V and where GTA V thought it should look for Social Club.
Update: you may have Social Club installed in TWO locations! Find the right one!!!
Step 3: Start GTA V and receive no error
Step 4: If this worked for you, remember how much Rockstar sucks at properly integrating their game with Social Club, and rant about it to all of your friends.. especially since they pushed out the release date of the game by over a year for the PC release... way to go.
If this didn't work, say where it broke, and what happened, and maybe I can help out from there.
that's a good point! I'll remember that when trying!
It seems that GTA had a pathing issue when it came to finding the Social club files. I suspected it was because my steam and all games are on my E drive, whereas the default installation location for social club is C drive program files. So i tried copying the files but to no aveil.
I then decided to go into regedit and change the default installation directory to a folder named 'Program files' that i made and put onto my e drive. I uninstalled social club and reinstalled it and then it went into my new directory, loaded up the game and experience euphoria as i see a login screen for the first time :D
I suffer from code 4 aswell and with the help of your post I can say that I get code 1 when renamning My social club folder. I haven't gotten my hands on a friends folder yet but I noticed that your social club folder is in version "1.5.5.6" while mine is "1.1.5.6". Is this a typo on your end or is there a new installer out that I haven't found yet?
