They released drivers end of last month. They just don't do monthly driver updates like Nvidia anymore. AMD stopped doing that in 2013 sometime. You still get drivers when they need to update them, and they still have a team working on them. I'll try to find the thing they posted on it and link it. Also when they have to (like when FC4 came out) they had like a new driver every other day fixing stuff.
Nvidia equvalant would be the 970, it's about equal to the 290x that you can OC the 290 a tad and equal performance of.
