GTA V Vehicle Handling Not As Good As GTA IV? Is A Handling Mod Needed?
First of all I have GTA IV on the PC and I have not played GTA V on consoles before. When my Pre-ordered GTA V on Steam is live, this will be my first play through of the game. Now I liked the handling of vehicles on GTA IV, cars were challenging to drive and it was rewarding when you learnt a vehicles characteristics and can drive through the city without crashing.

Reading comments on YouTube, it seems many comments state GTA V vehicle handling feels much more arcadey compared to GTA IV. Is this true? And do you feel a handling mod is needed to bring some enjoyment into the sort of diving I'd like to do in GTA V? The thought of driving every vehicle flawlessly makes driving sound boring. Where's the challenge? Don't mistake me, I'm not looking for ultra realistic driving, if I wanted that, I'd play a race sim.

Also should mentioned that you have a Driving Skill in the game, as you drive and perform stunts that skill goes up. As the skill goes up your handling and control of vehicles goes up. The same thing for the Flying Skill, the more you fly and do stunts the better control you have and the less turbulence will affect you while flying.

rusty, im going to buy the game anyway regardless if it was a preorder so what's the difference? At least now I've paid for it and don't have to think about any more. Your warning comes too late anyway, I pre-ordered weeks ago.

Duo, thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of that.

I would personally go with GTA5 handling over GTA4 any day.

GTA IV Car handling system beats GTA V by miles... you can feel the weight of the cars shift in GTA IV as their suspension creaks and brakes squeel.

GTA V is defintely more arcadey, however it's not as bad as I thought.

Cars in gta 4 handled like ♥♥♥♥, it was insanely arcade like, comical and so far removed from reality to make the whole driving aspect a pain in the ass, since when do regular cars have more suspension travel than most off-eoaders lol.

GtaV on the other hand has cars behaving like ... well cars, everything is alot more predictable and makes alot more sense.
That is to say, you would expect a super-car to corner flat and be responsive, and it is, meanwhile you would expect a big suv or an old car to feel slack and wallow in the corners with body roll etc, and, low and behold, they do.

Overall gtaV vehicle mechanics are a massive improvement and makes the game alot more fun, each of the cars feel unique, corner differently, and need to be learned to get the best out of them.

hahahaha arcadey ? You've clearly never driven a real car

One thing to remember. Whether you're playing GTA IV or GTA V, it is a game. It is not real life.

So by definition it is all arcadey. Even with simulators although they exist to more closely mimic reality.

Now, GTA V driving is a 1000 times better than GTA IV. I just gave up GTA IV because it feels like you're driving on ice. It is just not fun nor enjoyable at all.

Personally, I absolutely LOVE GTA V driving over GTA IV. The entire game is also so much more lively and involved and feels quite like GTA: SA

GTA IV wasn't a good effort by Rockstar in my opinion and Just Cause 2 which released around the same time to me was miles ahead of GTA.

Such games are about irreverent fun. Driving is a big part of it and GTA IV had the worst driving in all of GTA

Yeah! That's what I am talking about, I haven't played GTA IV in a while but I liked the way suspension creaks, cars have weight to them and brakes squeel.

Fani, Just Cause 2 is a fun game but I thought the handling was awful. Cannot control the fast cars, they spin out so easily.

As a racing simulator gamer, I must say it's all just arcade handling in both gta IV and gta V. I like gta V more simply because in gta IV it felt like driving on flat tyres..absolutely no decent grip and also no real feel of going fast. Gta V doesn't really need improvements for the driving, since it's still an arcade game and the step towards making it's vehicle handling more realistic, is just to big and to game changing I'm afraid. Of course I would be really happy if there would be steering wheel and FFB support but If not, so be it :)

There is a noticeable difference between IV and V, mostly the cars don't slide as much and there is less jiggly suspension.

I do hope after the game is released someone can do a real comparison with similar vehicles, by replicating the same handling.dat files on each vehicle and importing a map chunk from V into IV. The rest is up to the physics engine itself. (It could be done now, but I have no idea if people can access the Handling.Dat file on console discs)

There are some videos out there highlighting the difference, but the discrepancy between cars used make the results suspect.

The closest comparison I've seen is V Style, which is a script mod that attempts to replicate V's Driving on IV.

I'm just glad the camera from IV is not the same in V. That ruined the driving for me even with modded handleing. Its actually really fun to drive certain cars and bikes around the mountains in V though I will still be trying out some realistic handleing and damage mods offline.

i liked the handling in 4, it required skill and planning. if you just floored it into a turn you werent going to make it and i personally thought it was great fun.
ForzaUK 20 lutego 2015 o 15:58
I liked GTA IV driving mechanics alot. It was rewarding when you finally knew how to drive properly. Even then after you knew how to drive, it still is a huge challange, and on an off day you can drive bad (on multiplayer racing). But i look forward to GTA V with it's new easier mechanics. Yeah it might end up being a little less challanging and rewarding, but it will make a nice change too. Having an easier car to drive also has it's up and downs.

Thanks for the video, it was great! It does seem that for my own preference, I prefer GTA IV's handling but I will have to see when I play GTA V for the first time. I will be keeping an eye out for mods that change the handling if I don't like it. I also hear the vehicle damage in V is not as good as IV... I don't undetstand why Rockstar have taken many leaps forward but a few steps back in other places, really frustrates me!
