4k is a resolution setting. That's all it is.

It's not a bad idea. Shadow of Mordor did release the highest quality textures as a separate free DLC, this way those who won't use them can donwload the main game faster :D
it'd be cool if they did the same with GTA V

The download itself will have around 50GB if I had to guess, maybe even less. 65 GB is a required free space for the whole installation/unpack and even that probably leaves some space for the available system memory (or how it's called) - like 2 or 4 GB.

4K graphics and hi-res textures are two things - 4K is just a resolution setting (meaning it requires none additional HDD space) and it's the hi-res textures that indeed takes up considerable space. Although I'm pretty sure that they are gonna be hard-integrated within the game as a texture quality setting.

On the bright side, texture quality doesn't affect performance as much as one would expect - it's the advanced features (Ambient Occlusion, post-processing etc) and the resolution that are going to be a major performance drag.
It's personal preference, but I'd rather have sharp hi-res textures with no ambient occlusion than the other way around.

Sleeping Dogs had a different solution for HD textures.

Not a bad idea, that's how skytim did things.

4k means 4k resolution not 4k textures. If your computer can't handle 4k don't run it in 4k do 1080 if it can handle that.

Good idea. It should be around 20GB single-player with these low-medium textures, like xbox 360's. But I guess PC means not only texutres, but also more sound. Like new ambient vehicle horns n' shoit. Also around 10GB more sasquatches in the woods.

4K isn't ready yet in the slightest. As Private Pineapple said, they should just have it as a downloadable DLC like Skyrim did.

that would be kind of cool aside from the fact that nutella contains no significant amount of conductive metals and would dry out and become useless(and destroy your cpu) within a week.

And as some people said - 4K is simply a resolution setting. If you were talking about ultra HD textures or whatever (which you probably were), ok, but "4K" only labels the display resolution, it's got nothing to do with filesize.

In this thread; people who don't know what 4K is and keep complaining about it.

4K is simply a resolution setting that you set (3840x2160). It adds nothing to the game size. It scales the game up (or down) to reduce aliasing and increases pixel density making textures and distant models appear much sharper.

Higher-resolution textures (which are likely 1024x1024 for world entities, 2k for vehicles / weapons, and 4k for characters) benefit everyone.

The biggest culprit for the 60GB+ size, is most likely the uncompressed audio. Hours of character dialogue, music, sound effects, and radio chatter; it all adds up. An open-world game of this size, obviously requires a lot of assets, be it audio, textures, and models, making 60GB nothing out of the ordinary. In this day and age, storage is cheap and plentiful, so it's not unreasonable.

4k is just a resolution option, it adds little to no additional size.

Off topic but for some reason the idea of SkyTim highly amuses me.

It is a little late to ask for features like this , in all likelyhood the master disc has already been made and the discs are being manufactured right now.
