1) The copies bought outside Steam can't be activated through Steam. So, you pay more on Steam for the exclusive features
2) Steam (Valve) takes about 30% from the profit of a game sold on Steam Store. So, the companies tend to make the price higher at this platform.
The choice is up to you.
GMG also takes 30% for digital sales and so does Amazon and everyone else.
Not a Steam exclusive cut since it's industry wide.
Maybe it is a common percentage in America, but it varies from country to country. Here in Brazil, Steam sells GTA V for US$ 35 and other stores sells it for US$ 31
Non steam version = cheaper (in most cases), still works with steam just without E-peen achive's and trading cards. Oh and does not need steam running to play the game. Friendslist works in both "versions", You can add the game to your steam library. Also if steam gets taken down by hackers (happened to blizz, sony etc) you can still play the game where as Steam "version" user's can not.
(Found GTA 5 on pre-order for £29.97 @ Gamestop.co.uk cheapest so far and their pre-order bonus time lasts pretty much until midnight the day before agem release)
I'm just saying that digital retail wise that all digital storefronts take a 30% cut.
And Take-Two sets the pricing for Steam since it's the publisher. Steam doesn't set pricing itself. It only recommends pricing but that's all. Other stores that aren't Rockstar Warehouse or Steam typically tend to go with recommended MSRP but it doesn't mean regionally they'll stick with the $60 since economics and product logistics and all that stuff that needs to coordinated for a worldwide release.
What are the exclusive features offered in the steam version that is not available anywhere else?
Nothing.
Trading cards, achievements, Steam Gifts, play time count, quick online play setup with your steam friends, SteamPlay (selected games can be bought once and run on Mac/Linux/PC), shared library, easy download link, auto-updates, Steam Workshop (on selected games)...
Right lets put this into the correct context.
The steam version for any given game gives the advantages of Trading cards, Achieve's (for those that need gratifcation and goals to aim for while playing), Buying a 4 pack to gift 3 to friends or sell on external key sites to pay for your own purchase (which is only on certain games) and the workshop for very selected games. That is all.
Auto updating is done on ALL online games and most offline games regardless of what extra DRM software you use (Uplay, origin, steam,RSC). So no this is not a Steam exclusive feature.
"SteamPlay" wrong again most games will let you install it for either OS you are using right off the bat. Also most Linux user's have a windows emulator like Wine to run games anyway if there is no Linux version. So again not a steam exclusive feature.
Easy download link? Really? most games these days are bundled with some other launcher like Origin,Uplay etc and those that are not will always have either a set up file on your computer or one of thsese things called a DVD to re-install from. So again this is not a steam exclusive feature.
Shared library. Another non steam exclusive. Why add all your games to steams library when having a folder of shortcuts or even shortcuts on yoru desktop is EXACTLY the same thing. So again not a steam only feature.
Quick online play with friends? Sorry but no. The only thing this is good for is quick joining your friends but even then it is not a steam exclusive at all. Battle.net lets you drop in to your friends game on Diablo 3 with ease just from the launcher. Most CoD's let you drop into a friends game, Titanfall does the same thing and that is to name just a few games. So not a steam only feature.
Right, maybe not all of the features I listed are exclusive, but most of them are good enough on Steam or better than other platforms. That's why I chose Steam even being 5 dollares more expansive than the Rockstar Warehouse version in my country.
steam is my master my pet my overlord!
buying a game for pc and not getting it off steam?!
CAN... NOT... COMPUTE...
you lie! games are not sold anywhere other than steam, steam is my life it is everywhere....SHHHH QUIET THEY WILL HEAR YOU!
If i buy it anywhere else then i have to get up, if i buy it from steam then i dont have to leave this seat.
This reason is king!, now wheres my cake!?
Making fun of a person who thinks different from you is so intolerant and stupid.
