The game suddenly won't start
Hi,
As the title says, the game won't start. At all. Everything was fine until today. I've tried running the game thru Steam, R* Launcher, the desktop icon, running as admin, checking the game files, deleting cache. Still nothing.

When I try to run the game, after a few seconds both Steam and Launcher say the game is on. The task manager comfirms it. However, literally nothing happens. No loading, no black screen. Even the on the taskbar there's nothing.

I'm almost 100% sure the problem appeared after updating my graphic drivers (AMD). I appreciate any help.

Roll back the update.

BTW, I am assuming you shut down your machine completely, and then rebooted.

I would also suggest you copy elsewhere your profile located in rockstar folder in my documents,
rockstar, gtav, profiles. Then delete the original. This is not deleted by un/reinstalling the game. It holds all the info for starting the game such as your video settings which might not apply anymore.

I thought about undoing the update but have no clue how to do that.

About the rest, you mean to copy-paste the Profile folder somewhere else and then reinstall the game?

I have the exactly same issue. Two days ago it didn't open and showed me a problem message about online and offline start, but yesterday I tried to open it directly on GTA online and it worked. The bad thing is that today it won't open again, but this time with the same issue you wrote down, it keeps loading in the Rockstar Launcher until the connection is timed out. I won't reboot my PC to play, so I will wait for an update that can solve this...

Just copy it somewhere and delete the original profile files - the whole R* folder in Documents (or if you use One Drive, delete the Rockstar Games folder in One Drive/Documents). No need to reinstall the game, that would take a lot of time, I guess. Just start the game, it will create the whole folder anew with updated settings.
If the issue is in the settings, then deleting them and letting the game re-create them for you, should solve the issue.

If you mean "undoing the GPU update" it is as easy as de-installing the GPU software so the windows GPU part takes over, then just get the old driver you used before this one, install it and your GPU should be like it was before.

So just go into your Windows "Apps & Features" and search the GPU driver, de-install it, reboot. Then you need to find the old driver to install, if you're like me you always have the prior version somewhere on your HD.

So one thing important to keep in mind here. Steam has a cloud for game saves and settings.
So if you just delete the Rockstar folders after making a safety copy, Steam and/or the Rockstar launcher might download the version on the cloud save. So you would need to double-check that either launcher doesn't do that or you end up with the same files.

So what should I do so the apps don't download it from the cloud?

GTA5 doesn't support Steams cloud saves.

For Steam cloud saves what you can do. Righ-click on any game in your library and select "Properties". If the game supports Steam cloud saves, it will show on the window that pops up, the first page. "Steam Cloud", you can then just click the option to turn that off, and off it is.

For GTA5 the game does not support Steam Cloud. I heard that Rockstar has a own "Cloud Save" system, but looking around on the app I didn't see anything.

So your guess is as good as mine.

What I would do if I be you, is check the graphic card driver. Maybe try to get the old one you used before, deinstall the graphic driver completely and reinstall the older one. Then try to run the game.

If that doesn't work, I would reinstall the game over steam, unless your internet is really crappy that should not take that long.

Otherwise I would make a savety copy of the Rockstar folder, should be in:
C:\Users\user\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V
Of course your user name. It doesn't seem there is another save location.

Then try to start it again.

I would guess it is the Graphic card driver, did you try to start another game that was installed before? Do other games start?

I tried running my other games. All of them work more than fine. Actually, they run way better than before updating the driver, so I guess I don't wanna go back to the old one.

I don't see anything related to Steam Cloud on the popup, unless I'm blind. The only thing I found in R* Launcher, is an option to delete the local profile in settings > account info. It says it can be downloaded after logging in. Social Club? I don't have that app, not sure if it even exists.

Anyway, I turned off the Steam Cloud totally and even disconnected the internet. Then I removed the Profiles folder from Steam, GTA V, and Social Club. Then tried to run GTA. Turns out it won't run without logging into the R* Launcher, and when I log into it, all folders appear back immediately.

Sure, technically I can uninstall the game, but downloading it again will take like like 20hrs. Yes, I live on Mars (or even Jupiter).

if it means anything, i'm pretty sure social club is down, so you wouldn't be able to play online anyway.
