Because you didn't buy a PS4 instead.
I have seen MANY laptops killed graveyard dead by hardcore intensive games like GTAV.
Comments like this are not helpful, and are downright ignorant. Gaming Oriented laptops have been sold for a very long time now. For lots of people the mobility is a huge benefit which overcomes the lack of horsepower.
OP - if your laptop is overheating then there is most likely a cooling system issue. Check that the fans are working and that the vents/paths are clear and not clogged with dust.
Don't use the laptop on a soft surface like a bedsheet or pillow. use a hard surface. There are cooling platforms that can be bought which are often designed to fit directly to the bottom of the machine and improve heat dissipation too.
With all of that said, the machine IS going to feel warm to your hands, but so long as it's not shutting itself off, it's not overheating so much as just running warm. IN which case a fan blowing directly onto the surface should cool it enough to make it comforable to your hands.
PS4 or Xbox One (laugh) are portable and can be hooked up to any TV and PC monitors (via HDMI). If you don't have a TV or a PC monitor, I fear for you.
"portable" in so far as that they can be moved if you really want to, but they're not designed for portability. Laptops are. Do you think anyone REALLY wants to go through the trouble of digging behind their equipment and yanking out wires to "move" their console?
Also, consoles are just consoles and can be used for games and entertainment only. Computers are general purpose and can be used for many more things.
PS4 is 1 HDMI cable, 1 power cable, and a controller. If you can't manage that, then why bother?
Besides, with a laptop you still need a charger to use it because gaming will just drain the battery in no time. So not all that portable.
You're being purposefully obtuse, and you haven't seen my Home Theater. Getting all of the furniture and equipment pulled out to get access to the bundled cabling behind there is just a colossal pain in the rear and is just absolutely NOT worth the trouble.
Esp since I have absoultely NO NEED to move my PS4 around anyway. Ths is what the Playstation TV exists for.
/eyeroll. You're one of those types huh?
If he is willing to drop $1k on a "gaming" laptop that can't play GTA V, then he can drop $400 + TV to play GTA V without any hassle or fuss. But of course people like it the harder way...
Sigh. Dude, give it a rest ok? First of all, you have NO idea how much he spent on his laptop, but even if he did spend that much or more, ITS HIS MONEY TO DO WITH AS HE PLEASES. Clearly he wanted a damn laptop, NOT a freaking console or HE WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE OF THOSE.
Your constant insistence on what he "should" have bought doesn't answer the question or help. So if you simply have nothing to contribute to the issue, just shush and go away.
