Do you have to finish story mode before playing online?
I know you're able play online regardless of your progress offline. But I haven't played the game for long and during online play I encounter "heists" (through ivites) that have a background story that I'm missing.

So my specific questions is: Are these heists from offline story mode?
Also do you recommend that I finish story mode before playing online?

No, they are not. The background story is all in the online mode. To get the whole story you need to play all Heists in Order, which will also reward you 1 million gta$.

I did so, but it's not necessary. If you learned how to play this game in story mode, then you are ready for online :D

edit: Heists unlock with level 12.

So there is an offline strory and a separate online story, that makes sense.

It seems that it's best to play the online story missions in order to understand these heists better, plus it's more fun!

Thanks for the response.

No, but it would extremely help you. For example, in GTA Online, I think there is a mission called the Pacific Standard heist which requires you to use an app called "Trackify". Now in the story mode, it took me several tries to learn how to use it, but I took my time to learn how to use it. If I first tried it out in GTA Online, I would have had people screaming at to hurry up. So is it necessary? No, but you would learn so much from it.

Zarris, that's one of the heists I was referring to. My lack of experience of these missions causes my team to fail repeatedly; thankfully I've been lucky enough to play with people who haven't been annoyed by it too much. :)

I agree that you'd learn so much from playing the story first, I also think it's more considerate to other players, which is why I'm going to finish at least some of the story mode.
