As far as "another 20 years"? Depends on how successful GTA VI is. If it's a flop, expect the interval to be a lot shorter. If it's a hit, they'll milk every console player for at least the next 3 generations.
eh i mean gta is already controversial by itself. It's true the executives tend to put all their eggs in one basket unfortunately, that's how it is with AAA: parasites that know nothing, see only numbers and don't understand what they mean (a bigger number to them is always good), they ruin everything yet they're at the top.
I do know one thing, if GTA6 turns out to be a flop, Rockstar's days will be numbered. They have no other IP to fall back on that will be as highly profitable as the GTAO business model has been. If GTA6 is a bust, chances are it will also have a side effect on GTA5 sales and GTA Online.
It's going to be a wild next year or two. All we can do is wait to see what happens. I know I'm not buying into GTA6. I got off at GTA5 after the anti-Linux movement Rockstar chose. Not just because I'm a Linux gamer, but because of how they chose to go about the whole process of throwing Steam Deck console and desktop Linux gamers under the bus. After taking their money happily for two entire years to only pull the rug from under their feet in an anti-consumer way, I've lost any and all respect I had for Rockstar. The company operates with intentional malice and that's not something I'm willing to support.
GTA V's Online turned out to be an unexpected success, but if GTA VI's online were to fail, focusing on single-player games and DLCs might be a viable strategy.
rockstar started going downhill ever since PS2 era ended.
but it wont be the last, as current gen gamers drop all of their money on cosmetics (COD etc.) and pay people to watch them play games....GTA 6 will suckle that simp teet and make huge piles of money.
I’m also curious if they’ll keep GTA 5 Online servers up or just shut them down. With GTA 6 Online dropping, they’re gonna have to spend a lot more on servers and maintenance. Honestly, the servers already bug out a lot now, and if they gotta run two massive online worlds at once, who knows what’s gonna happen. Plus, I bet a bunch of players will stick to GTA 5 for various reasons.
As for “milking” the game, yeah, they’ll definitely keep doing that. Rockstar didn’t expect GTA 5 Online to blow up the way it did, but it paid off big time. So yeah, GTA 6 is gonna be another cash cow. They might make the in-game economy tougher or leave it the same as GTA 5, but honestly, I hope they don’t mess it up. The main thing is, they should keep dropping free content you can get with in-game money. Nobody wants to pay $100 for a bunker.
When it comes to content, I think they’ll add even more than they did in GTA 5. But I’m not saying GTA 6 will be way better or anything. The GTA 5 map is already huge and packed with stuff. If they wanna add even more to GTA 6, they’ll probably need to make the map at least twice as big.
