How come GTA V runs windowed, and sometimes runs full screen?

I would prefer having the game run full screen? And windowed if I choose. But I cannot make the game return to fullscreen.

Pressing Alt+Enter doesn't make the screen return to full screen.

did you try setting it in the graphic options to full screen? doesnt really sounds like it

also borderless window is better if you plan to tab out of the game

Settings > Graphics > Screen Type displays 'fullscreen' but the game runs windowed.

Find gtaV.exe file / Properties / Compatibility / check box " Disable Full Screen Optimisation " / Apply / OK .

In Steam library right click on GRA V / Properties / Installed Files / Browse .

Windowed Borderless has always had a performance impact so if you are on a potato, or a machine that will just run it smoothly but Battleye takes it over the edge to jerkytown, it's probably better to go fullscreen.

Sometimes the r* launcher starts up without being the focus screen and defaults to windowed mode, let mouse pointer hover on task bar and click on launcher when it appears, not a permanent solution but only way to get mine to work.

Thankyou everyone for your input. Unfortunately neither is correcting the problem. Its really annoying considering I paid full price for this game, and all I wanna do is enjoy a game when I am home. I working a full-time job, I don't have the time or the patience to deal with this.

Game was fullscreen for two days this week, and running the game tonight and has returned to windowed..

Thanks, but ain't working either.. Would the game have an email or phone number to resolve this? The only option is to play the game in a tiny window or don't play it at all. Grr

If i go into the pause menu, i can force it back to fullscreen.

But same, always seems to start in windowed mode, and alt + enter or whatever doesnt work.
