Linux player
Does anyone has any news regarding us?

Aside that, anyone here also has the epic version?
If so, can you play it online with Heroic Launcher? (It has a Battleye layer on it)

If it does work, I'll be considering buying the game again :/

the single player can still work. but because gta dont wanna click a single check box on battleeye... you will most likely never get a linux multi player. and im not sure if custom servers like fiveM work on linux as i haven't been using linux much

I finished the single player years ago. A week before this new patch with the anticheat I've done 100% just because I've never done it.

So the singleplayer to me is more than over.

I'm a mix of frustraded and angry because I have nearly 1200 hours in this game, pretty much my go to game, While I loved the ban wave for modders/cheaters, that's always a good thing, nearly 1000 of those hours were of me playing online at private sessions all by myself (or with a single friend I got that also plays it) doing my missions, getting a free car at the cassino when the luck allowed me, dressing my character, etc.

So it's really annoying to me due this bunch of jackasses I can't enjoy my game by myself anymore.

FiveM doesn't work on Linux. There's apparently a client in the works, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that coming to fruition anytime in the near or distant future. Rockstar hates Linux so I wouldn't be surprised if they told Cfx.re to cease work on a Linux client.

@Diego Libe Rockstar are a bunch of boomerang givers. They have a long history of that. They've already proven that in past with cutting game content, gate keeping nearly 200 cars, they refuse to turn on Linux support in BattlEye, they manipulate and lie to us all, they make their game more and more grindy to encourage Shark Card sales, people buy, get account wiped or banned for no good reason and the list goes on and on. Rockstars is no stranger when it comes to treating their community like worthless trash.

If you're done with single player, walk away and move on. You're not missing anything amazing, innovative or substantially creative and uniquely fun.
as a steam deck deck player, very disappointed in rockstar......

The only language Rockstar knows, speaks and respects is money. If everyone stopped speaking their language, they would have no choice, but to start speaking other languages and maybe begin with treating their customers and players with some respect. Rockstar has no respect for us and they have proven it on many, many occasion.
Unfortunately for us, every other time PC users got screwed over (mod breaking, anti-consumer stuff) we had a united front, and our voices were heard. Sadly as Linux gamers, we're a minority of the PC gaming public, and the Windows gamers honestly couldn't care less.

BattleEye is ineffective in deterring hackers, Rockstar took half of the product we paid for away from us, and if we bought shark cards they effectively stole money inaccessible to us now. These are all valid complaints, and Rockstar wouldn't be able to drown out the noise if PC gamers as a whole cared, but they don't, we're such a minority of users it doesn't even make a noticeable change to the Steam Reviews, let alone Rockstars bottom line.

That's the part that's most irritating. They know they need to do this and it would probably take one of their minions about 2 seconds to do this, but they refuse. They even said in their release statement that they knew this would break the game for Linux/SteamOS, but then went on to say that they don't support those platforms. So, basically, "screw you."

I'm not a cheater and I'm glad they're cracking down on cheaters, but I just wanted to play the game that used to run flawlessly on my OS of choice. And it could run fine. I installed Windows 11 just to play this stupid game online for about a week, but I felt dirty, so I went back to Linux Mint. I presently have all of the GTA games in my library hidden and I'm thinking about removing them from my account, even the ones that work flawlessly with Proton, just because I don't want to support Rockstar anymore. I know Rockstar doesn't care, but they've made their last money from me.
Possible behind doors console corpos made some deal with R*. Steam deck was a cheap alternative to consoles and gtav was top played game there. Would not be surprising if they intentionally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over linux users just to boost soyny sales after that ps5 pro backlash.

I so agree with you.
I'm or rather was, on the verge of getting rid of this Windows partition I have since my new job no longer needs a Windows device to do my work and all the games I care to play, already works on Linux either natively or by proton.

GTA Online being my go to game also used to, then when I was ready to move on from Windows they do this ♥♥♥♥...

Now I'm wasting nearly 20Gb just to keep an OS that I simply don't like/care to just play a single game, when I could be using all this space for other stuff.

And we ain't even touched the main thing that the majority of Windows players doesn't know about GTA 5/Online: despite it not being native to Linux, you actually have more performance on it than on Windows, and one big reason is because all the Windows crap is not taking all the resources from the system for no reason.

It reallly feels dirty, a punch to the gut.
Maybe try vine or try using a vm for Windows.
No new news. Roockstar refuses to enable BattlEye and their stance hasn't changed. Rockstar hates Linux gamers. I have a copy on EGS.
Alt:V multiplayer works on Linux but I was only able to get it to run on the Windows Steam client running in Wine (not Proton on Linux Steam because it doesn't detect Steam) and there is only 1 English server called PlayV.mp Freeroam.

ALT:V is decent yeah. When you tried to install the first time, did you follow the instructions given by the devs?

So it doesn't work with Heroic Launcher either?

Which instructions? I just installed Windows Steam in Wine Staging in Lutris, imported the GTA 5 steam library, and installed Alt:V inside the prefix. There is a check box for Wine/Linux compatibility in the Alt:V installer.

It works but there needs to be more English language servers.
