The swimming controls in this game are god awful
I've been spending the last 15 minutes trying to get the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ railgun but I can't get into the ♥♥♥♥ing cockpit. The controls are floaty (no pun intended) as hell. I don't feel like I have direct control over the character. How hard is it to make good swimming controls? Just have it be WASD in whatever direction you are facing. You don't need to include the spacebar and everything else making it a total cluster♥♥♥♥. Shift should only be used to swim a bit faster. It's seriously as bad as Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis. Fix this.

I use a PS4 controller to play, so this has never been a problem for me. However I doubt it's "awful", maybe not very intuitive, but certainly you can swim with a keyboard, you just have to plan your movements ahead instead of facedesking your keyboard in hopes of turning in the right direction. No wonder it takes you 15 minutes to do whatever you are doing.

Check if you can control it with your mouse in settings, because atleast with a controller, you do indeed just swim where you are looking, with an addition of other controls that let you have sharper turns and swimming up/down, etc.

Is swimming possible? Yes. Does it feel good? No. It feels clunky as hell. They made it way more complicated than it needed to be. WASD in whatever direction for a facing and shift to swim faster, that's it. Simple. Try it with the keyboard. Compare it to any other PC game with swimming and you will know what I'm talking about.

Well you can always customize controls.

for keyboard and mouse , yes they are
very fiddly
w=swim down
s=swim up
sprint to kick/stroke
jump to dive
very consolely , very poor movement porting , but then all games act like poor console ports now

GTA V is not a port, next-gen console versions were developed FROM PC version. However I don't see the problem, you have to point the camera where you want to go and just hold 1 button.. You don't need to use WASD at all unless you want sharper movement that rely less on the mouse.

I just tried it out, all I had to do was point where I wanted to go with my mouse and simply hold left SHIFT. It can't get easier and more fluid than this... Your mistake might be attempting to use WASD in the first place.

why do people get so defensive about this , it is a game made for consoles ,the controls were designed for controllers . rockstar added pc compatibility because they wanted the MONEY . all that bs about making the game for pc is marketing to sell more units. because the say it is doesnt make it true.
it's a console game that was ported to pc , if it were a pc game it would have fluild non-fiddlely controls via mouse and keyboard .
console=game controller (sloppy system , aim assist )
pc=mouse/keyboard (precise)
stop being in denial , it is a fact of life , most games are made for that fat lush easy console market .

exactly , the game was made for consoles , therefore it's a pc port , if it wasnt a port it would have proper mouse keyboard controls ,
