Playing online and grinding is just pointless
Hey everyone,

I just need to vent a bit and ask, what's the point of playing online or grinding for money when almost everyone is using mod menus and getting everything so easily? It's just not fair! Can someone explain the appeal to me?

Like, recently, I joined a heist through my phone, and this person set all cuts to 1000%. I was lucky enough to leave the game instantly at the planning board, but it really made me think. Why am I bothering to play this game at all when most players are using cheats?

I mean, I get that some people like the thrill of having everything at their fingertips, but what's the challenge in that? For me, the fun comes from planning, strategizing, and working as a team to pull off a big score. When people use mods, it feels like all that effort is pointless.

Sure, I could avoid all public lobbies, but where's the fun in playing an online game alone? I love the social aspect and meeting new people, but it's hard to enjoy when you never know who’s using mods.

It just seems so unfair. You invest time and effort to earn money and level up, and then some modder comes along and makes it all look pointless. I know it's just a game, but it's really discouraging when you feel like you're the only one playing by the rules.

I used to love the excitement of planning a heist, the thrill of executing it, and the satisfaction of splitting the loot with my friends. Now, it feels like those moments are becoming rarer and rarer. It’s hard to stay motivated when you see other players bypassing all the hard work with just a few clicks.

Maybe I should just disable the online mode in the PC version and stick with story mode. Plus, no modders to ruin the experience. But then again, I'd be missing out on the multiplayer aspect, which is what drew me to the game in the first place.

I guess I'm just feeling really frustrated. Can anyone relate or offer some advice? How do you cope with this stuff? Is there a way to enjoy the game despite all the modding going on? Are there any communities or private lobbies where people play fair?

It's been 10 years since this title released. Players are now chomping at the bid, eager for the next instalment and so have adopted a 'idgaf' attitude to this one. The toy story 'i dont want to play with you anymore' meme describes this current outlook pretty well.

Trust, with 13k hours logged (and about 4k on peasant console too), playing the same heist a thousand times gets DULL and tedious, especially with the same players making the same mistakes. One or two script kids modifying the payout is a least amount of chaos they could invoke. It makes the low-tier effort worth it to help others. I'm sure you have seen the inflation of prices for things in-game? Things didn't used to cost that much in the first few years of multiplayer.

Agreed. 100% agreed. But the games lifecycle is past the point of engagement. It is showing it's age and major issues refuse to be addressed by the developer (ie god mode). The player base has been worn down to the point of indifference and no longer care about the potential repercussions, thus look for their own solutions.

Definitely. But that's the rub you need to come to terms with. PC multiplayer is infested with scrubs across the board, in every possible online game. Playing legitimate here is a dying breed when instant gratification is lorded so gratuitously. The only semblance of a fair game now is on console, but even there they can ban you for your in-game actions. Glitching and bug exploits on console are as common as script mods are here on PC.

There's always the F5 key... (that's pause>find new session) or the Alt F4 keys. It's too long in the tooth to look at this game with innocent eyes. It's been so long since it came out. The window to play authentically has passed and you're witness to it. This game is on the top 10 played of all time for a reason and one of those reasons is being able to do whatever you want, even if it means breaking the games TOS to do so. I'm not personally advocating for it, but i can see why so many do it. Even with EAC anti cheat or the like here, you'd still see thousands of paid menus fighting in game and screwing players over. It's a perpetual lost battle.

That's the burnout you normally expect after a few years of average play. That level of excitement was never gonna last forever. There's only so much a story can offer before it becomes boring, cheaters or no cheaters.

You can enjoy this game with the knowledge cheaters will rule the roost. You just have to look past the fact they needed to install third party software in order to achieve the level of skill and enjoyment you didn't need. Some things like boosting your rank or modified heist payouts are small fry in the grand scheme of things; cash is infinitely disposable and rank is meaningless past 135, except to show how bigger your e-peen/e-kitty is.

There are plenty. Discord channels and FiveM would be the go-to for those indifferent to the vanilla GTAO experience. The app is simple, choose a server and connect like CS:GO. Word of warning though a lot of it involves roleplay, so unless you are happy to be sub by domineering admins then that would be the avenue to seek. That or trying your best to look past the cheating aspect on PC. Or finally, becoming the villain and installing mods yourself (disclaimer: i do not endorse this). Or try the best of both worlds, install a few single player mods and enjoy them at your leisure and then remove them and play online legitimate when you feel the urge. That way you know you aren't a hypocrite by needing to force your mods on to others at the expense of feeling safe.

Yes i also remember having fun with people doing heists, but since 1 year there are too many activities.
Maybe you will be luckier on FiveM ?
Public lobbies are doomed, don't waste your time.
Try to find some friends on forums or discords then go play in invite only.
Maybe there will be another ban wave one day.

Fingers crossed for a ban wave to clean things up. It’s just frustrating when it feels like modders are taking over the whole experience

Cool story, but maybe some of us actually care about having a fair game. If you’re okay with mods ruining the experience, that’s on you. Don’t act like everyone else’s frustrations are just gibberish.

You were looking for a "fair" online experience, so you decided on GTA5 PC.
Interesting.

Yeah, expecting fairness in GTA5 might seem unrealistic, but it's funny how you’re so quick to shrug it off. Just because you’re okay with the chaos doesn’t mean everyone should be. Some of us still believe a game can be enjoyable without all the cheating.

Why do we grind in the first place?

Sense of accomplishment?
Want to save up for a new expensive toy?
The gameplay is fun?
Bragging rights when others see what you have?

It seems to me only one of these requires being online and in a public lobby. If you find you're having enough fun and entertainment because of the other things then that's all that matters, right? And if that's the case, why care if you're doing it by yourself in a private lobby? It's for you, not for them, right?

Cheat menu users are taking over the whole experience because Rockstar has a monetary incentive to allow cheat menu users to run free in the game.

When they do toss out a ban wave, it is ONLY done to boost sales of the game, because they know that a percentage of the banned cheaters will purchase a new copy to continue cheating. This boosts sales figures right before quarterly sales reports AND it convinces people that the game is suddenly "clean" for a time (which can convince other people who haven't bought the game yet to buy it because "they're working on keeping cheaters out")

Funfact: There are free cheat menu users who have been blatantly cheating since pretty much day one, and they still haven't been banned once.

See Rockstar doesn't bother to ban these cheat menu users because they have a monetary incentive to leave them alone. These cheat menu users drop free money on poor players which lets them buy stuff (free drugs) which in turn gets them hooked and going back to Rockstar (the drug dealer) to buy shark cards (more drugs)

The so called "free" DLC content in GTAV is a massive scam as it's among the most overpriced DLC content in the history of the gaming industry. If it was a fair price you wouldn't see the majority of the community being driven to get a cheat menu in order to enjoy the "free" content they were promised.

Sure, personal satisfaction is cool, but the social side and validation are big parts of why people play GTA Online. The point of playing online is to connect with others, show off your cars, heists, and other achievements, and get that recognition. Bragging rights aren’t just about ego; they’re about being part of the community and enjoying the game’s social features. If you can’t share what you’ve accomplished or see others’ reactions, it kind of takes away from the whole experience.

But when cheaters come into play, it ruins that vibe. If people are cheating to get their stuff, it makes all those achievements feel pointless and takes away from the thrill of the game. It’s a bummer and can make you want to skip online play if the cheating issues aren’t dealt with.

7k hours in game ain't quick
but it is just a game
play it don't play it ... no sweat off me
So you are unrealistic now complaining about my ability to accept and deal with what is reality.
Your tripe won't be missed .... hint.

The majority of ppl using menus, are using them for this very reason.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gta5Modding/comments/1em0jz1/who_or_what_is_rc3104_and_why_does_he_always/

^like this, theres currently a user (bot?) Going around crashing public sessions one after the other.

That bot(?) likely belongs to a menu dev, and its purpose is to push sales.

Its a vicious cycle that R* doesnt appear to give a ♥♥♥♥ about.
vlanill7 Aug 7, 2024 @ 6:32pm
its much more fun farming for money then just doing the missions without caring for money imo, it give you enough motivation to do cayo and casino again and again with different approches and you feel more satisfied owning the stuff you want online after hard work
i think its all go down to self achivement after all
why play game on hard mode or not just use cheats to unlock achivements? because you feel much more satisfied working for the stuff you want
also you don't feel like a hated cheater because people don't really like cheaters

GTA Online is in itself chaos. Menus don't matter when you've still got tons of griefers to deal with. You say you want fairness, but I don't think that you realize just how unfair that GTA Online's public sessions are meant to be. The entire point of GTA Online's public sessions are meant for players to prance around griefing each other. Heck, the game is programmed to go out of it's way to tell other players to blow up your stuff if you're doing deliveries.

The only fairness that you'll get in GTA Online is either in friends-only sessions or invite-only sessions. Anything beyond those two options is going to be wishful thinking.
