Where Is The Open World?
Yes, I'm a noob to GTA V, but not to games. Time and time again I've read about this wonderful "open world" that GTA V has. I finally bought it, but for the life of me, all I get are scripted missions. Even the online game, when I try to go to solo play, lumps me into some competition with other online players. For now, I just want to do some open world exploring . . . help! What am I doing wrong?

Do you know what open world means?

So just don't do the missions, just stick to single player and go exploring.....

I understand everything you folks are saying. I'm very familiar with open world (I'm a Skyrim addict). However, I cannot find any place to select "single player" and go exploring - online or off. I do see a solo mode in the online game, but I still get dropped right into a canned mission. I'm probably making this harder than it needs to be, but I have the bad habit of missing the obvious . . .

You CAN choose not to do the missions in SP, and if you want you can host your own private lobby in MP and choose invite only or solo session....both work. You gotta go to main menu once your in SP,choose online (or mp i don't remember) go to the last option on the list and there you can choose solo MP sessions or invite only ones. You can have access to heists and contact missions even when in privatre sessions. But you might get dropped to other lobbies when you join a heist.

Thanks for everyone's help. My preference is offline, open world play. When I load GTA V, I get several options at the bottom of the screen: quit game, some gang vs. gang option, a freaks and something option, Rockstar online, and story mode. I see no option for a sandbox mode. I'm used to online games like Everquest, and offline games like Skyrim, both where I can explore the world, and do quests (or missions) when I feel ready.

Or could it be I have to finish the prologue missions in GTA V to unlock the open world? Don't know . . .

Oh, and LODzombie: how do I CHOOSE not to do the missions in SP? BTW, I forgot to mention I have the game on PC.

You have to finish the prologue which is like the Helgen turorial in Skyrim

When you are done with the prologue you can choose not to go to the specific markers which starts missions

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, man hes stupid.

Jk

What do you mean you keep getting put into missions? You accept them?
Just steal a car and go exploring once you go online. Don't go into your phone to do anything

Yeah do the prologue and after that you can do what you want. You also have to do the prologue before it lets you play online, this may be where you are getting confused.
