Free Aim is free aim. There's also free aim - assisted which gives a very slight lock-on effect for controller users only.
Assisted will lock onto the torso of targets but if you move the reticle it will lose lock. It will also not allow you to use auto-aim from a vehicle
Auto-Aim will keep lock onto a target if you move the reticle around and allows you to auto-aim from vehicles
Bear in mind that whatever setting you choose, you will only be matchmaked with players using the same aim setting. Also I'm uncertain whether the aim setting affect KB/M aiming
I can't find where it shows Auto Aim. Under Targetting Mode all it has is, Free Aim - Assisted, Free Aim, Assisted Aim - Full and Assisted Aim - Partial. There's no Auto Aim mentioned there.
It's okay. I play it on Xbox One at times as well as PC. Mine is on Assisted Aim - Partial and I still can't auto aim when I'm in a car. The same when I chose Assisted Aim - Full. I also changed the Driveby Control Type back to Aim + Fire and I still can't auto aim when I'm in a car.
This is what I thought. A friend of mine more-or-less swears we can auto aim while driving a car and I've never known this to happen in any GTA game. The only change I've known in GTA V and GTA Online is where we can change it so we press LB to aim and RB to fire while using an Xbox 360 controller. I use the controller because I can never play video games with a keyboard and mouse.
