FPS Drops [SOLVED]
So I am very picky about frame drops as I can spot them out easily. So if my game were to go 60 to 58 frames I would be able to notice that. Anyway, I just build my new PC with a i5 4690k and a MSI GTX 970. I launched GTA V with default settings, got through the prologue, and I went to change my settings. Heres my settings:

  • DirectX 11
  • 1080p
  • 60 Hz
  • FXAA - On
  • MSAA - Off
  • VSync - On
  • Pause On Focus Loss - Off
  • Population Density, Variety, and DIstance Scaling - 100%
  • All Quality Settings - Very High
  • Reflection MSAA - Off
  • Shadows - Softest
  • Post FX - High
  • Motion BLur - 0%
  • Everything Else is Off

Somethimes when I play, I will get framedrops from 60 to 58, sometimes 60 to 50. This is very annoying to me and I don't know what to do. I do not want to overclock my GPU or CPU. What should I do?

P.S. My PC temps are fine, nothing is very hot

P.S.S I am getting off soon, questions might not be answered until morning (EST)

Weird. I get 100 on my build with a 4790k and 970ssc. Perhaps a drivers issue? Have you checked GeForce experience?

All of my drivers are up to date for my graphics card, maybe I need to update my motherboard drivers.

So you're "picky" and notice a 2 frames drop but play with vSync enabled?!

Depending on monitor, tearing and other funny stuff might be worse than having vsyinc on.
Actually my game is unplayable w/o vsync. Moving objects are kind of stuttering in the game.

Your settings are too high, try turning grass and shadows down. Also get rid of any advanced options if they are enabled.

970's are good cards but they are too weak to run all settings very high and not drop below 60FPS.

Yea, grass is better be set on "high".

I just turned my settings down, all of the texture settings are on high and all advanced settings are disabled. I now get a solid 60 FPS. Thanks for the tip.

My 970 can handle very high shadows just fine, but Ambient Occlusion was the reason i had drops in Sandy Shores and forest areas. Never cared for that setting much, but after turning it down to medium i got solid 60 fps w/o sacrificing any noticable graphic feature.

Can you send me your settings maybe? Playing with a 970, too. CPU is powerful enough and no probs with temps! In the city I have most of the time +60 fps (vsync on Nvidia settings - sometimes drops to 55 in the beginning of the game, I guess it is loading texture stuff), but outside of Los Santos I get mostly 50 fps in some areas (Sandy Shores etc).

this is an issue with drivers so really you just have to update them and youll be fine that is until you have to update them again
