Going from 1080p to 1440p - GTX 980 ti
I just ordered a new 1440p monitor, the Acer G257HU. First, anyone else have that monitor by chance, if so what do you think? I should get mine early next week.

I've been using a 1080p monitor, and recording various games and recently started messing around with GTAV and some of the mods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6alnuV8SZI

My card is the GTX 980 ti msi gaming golden edition, and it's been performing very well so far. Much better than my old card, which was the AMD R9 285. I'm curious of how it'll do at 1440p, though. I've been rocking max settings, 60fps at 1080p. I'd still like to keep the max settings; how much of a performance hit should I expect?

Thanks!

Today is the day! Gonna be a long day at work while I wait for "my precious," to arrive!

Good luck, Gollum. I'm waiting for my second 970 as well. :P
Should have the same performance as you.

You guys were right!

Handling 1440p very well. If I adjusted the settings a bit, I think I could easily have constant 60fps. I think it looks amazing, though.

Thanks for the support here, this was a huge step! 1440p!!!

You should set MSAA to 2x with FXAA on and turn grass down to high or so. Those are the only settings you need to adjust. Not sure if you have MSAA higher than 2x at the moment though. Just see how it works.

Thanks! I'll make those changes tonight.

To be honest I'm still a PC novice. Being able to make all these graphical changes is awesome, but also has a learning curve as well. I appreciate all the help here from seasoned veterans! :)

To the people who said once I got a 1440p display it'd be difficult to go back to 1080p.

You were absolutely right.

There's not really a difference between 1440p and 1080p a part from naturally less aliasing. The image quality is the same, you just have less jagged edges. If you turn up AA at 1080p to 4x, it'll be the same as 1440p with 2x. Adding more pixels does not add quality.

Not quite, if you have a monitor with a higher pixel density you can get a more detailed image. So rendering a 1440p image to a 1440p monitor will in theory give a more detailed image than rendering 1080p on a 1080p monitor.

Well Tomb Raider looked amazing before, and looks amazing after, I know that much! :)

Yeah, a 1080 screen at 24" probably looks about the same in terms of aliasing as 1440 at 32". Though there is a bit more information in the 1440 screen so it kind of cancels out a little.

1440p is pretty rough on newer games, which havent been properly optimized, but it shouldent be a problem for you with GTA v, might have to turn down AA, which is makes less differense with 1440p, since AA is only a resolution enchancer grapical setting.

I say it shouldn't be a problem man. I picked up the Acer XB270HU 1440p and am running 2 980 ti Classified Cards and it looks great. Most of the newer games out now run pretty well on it.
