they'll empty your bank account and kill your dog
oh no
And Rockstars sucks by not doing enough about them.
Some modders are friendly, most are griefing in godmode. Or just making your session crash. They can do that because Rockstars saved money on their money grinding game. Everyone has a point to point connection. Modders can get your IP and make your game crash e.g. with a network error, or it's just gone and you need to start it again. They even do this when you're just playing and not troubling anyone. They suck.
But the game is fun. Online brings a lot of nice vehicles.
In 2021 or 2022 there was a security problem, they could hack your game and steam account. It's fixed. Now they still can get your IP, but can't do anything then kick you out of the session. Ofcourse when hackers have your IP you need yo make sure that your network is secure (as always also with browsing needs to be the case).
If you either
A) Learn how to operate a firewall
or
B) Learn how to use guardian
No modder or hacker will ever be able to touch your game, period.
In fact no one except your trusted friends will be able to join a session with you ever.
Hackers/Modders can get into invite session, even a few dumb things they can do to you in story mode, but they can't do ♥♥♥♥ when a firewall tells them to GTFO.
Also, if a modder/hacker is in a public session you are in, don't say anything, just quietly leave and find another session.
Most of them have the emotional maturity of a 4 year old with brain damage.
If you say something to them about their activities, they get their feelings crushed and then feel the need for revenge on you.
So just slip out quietly.
