What Happens to my Steam Account When I Get Banned on GTA V Online?

Rockstar and steam are two separate entities , so you will still use steam and can still use Gtav but will only be able to play story mode ie single player

The only effect from a GTA Online ban on your steam account is that you are not eligible to play GTA Online anymore. You will not get a game ban mark on your profile.

So if someone uses hacks in gta online, can't they just create a new character to play online?

If they buy new game copy on different account they can (or if ban is not permanent and they wait a month).

wish Steam would add a game ban on their profiles too

I think it's just a matter of time until valve removes game/VAC bans from profiles. Cheaters are becoming most protected class in these parts. Some more years and even banning them will be against the law, cause that offends their feelings.

wouldn't that make all the "professional" esporters quit?
It would kill games like CS2 and dota

Who's better cheater can always be new e"sport". After all I doubt much actual profit comes from those tournaments. It's all about skins and other mtx.

Your Social Club account and your Steam account are permanently linked.

If you get banned in GTAO, they also ban the linked Steam account, preventing you from circumventing the ban by removing the game from Steam and rebuying it.
In fact, if you do so, you will receive the very same - and banned - game key.

I don't know if this also works across distribution platforms.
I.e. if you use the same Social Club account on the Epic and the Steam version of the game.

true
I've never liked those so called esporters who turned gaming into some kind of serious competition with cheats instead of entertainment like watching a movie
so lame

You're still using the same game key to play it so even anyone using family sharing will be banned.
