Rockstar Club Login Issues with linked Steam Account... I think GTA is dead now
When I say dead, I mean dead to me basically because I'm not buying it again. Here's the situation with me and rockstar:

I purchased GTA V from Steam in late 2019 and I've always been using the steam launcher to open GTA. It's been flawless with running it via the steam launcher, until....

Steam now wants to open the rockstar launcher whenever I try to play GTA. Not only that, but the rockstar launcher is asking me for a rockstar social club login that I don't even know what it is.

That account is linked to my current and only steam account. So of course, since I'm running steam and purchased it on steam, any other rockstar social club account that I try to login with, it doesn't work and I can't play GTA.

I only have 1 other rockstar social club account (even though I don't even remember needing to sign up for one when I bought it in the first place) and that does not work. It keeps saying that I have to use the social club account that is linked to my steam but you know, those credentials are a mystery to me.

I have proof of purchase on steam, CD Key and access to my steam account. but apparently that's not enough for rockstar. Rockstar support is not helping me and since it's probably an old email account from 2019, I keep trying to tell them that I don't have access to it and I don't even know what it is.  So I can't access any receipts from that email or reply to them from that email that was used for that social club account...... But nevermind that. I don't even know if its a separate email seeing as the social club account is connected via steam.

Then I had a support agent just close the case and marked it as resolved when he tried to "investigate" this further by asking me when did I link the social club account to steam. I said I didn't know an exact date, but probably somewhere in December 2019 when I bought it and he just closed the case.

And then when I asked if they could just unlink that social club account from my steam so I can link the one that I actually have the login credentials for, they said I could do that but i won't be able to play GTA again on that steam account. Nothing at all is resolved here.

It isn't enough for that agent. Try again. Ask them to escalate if you have everything they are asking for, or they are simply failing to understand you do not have access to the original account. Bear in mind, when you put in the compromised account ticket - you do not use the old email - you use one you actually have access too.

They are correct about the unlinking - single use non-transferable cd key.

As for the link date - I'd look at your steam achievemen (Unlocked Dec 3, 2019 @ 10:35am) if you do not use a social club account for any thing else - R* copies, console, etc etc. Your purchase/download time could change that date but it could be super close/exact.

edit - hopefully trying to sort this out you haven't just swapped emails. IIRC - there were also some people complaining about issues with alias emails like 'bobby joe@gmail' being the same as 'bobby.joe@gmail' --- but on R*'s - that is not the case, they are different.

And of course the usual copy/pasta -

Adding to it, but on my steam when the rockstar Laucher opens asking me for my login, it says "We couldn't sign you in automatically, please login manually using t******k@g***l.com".

It says that, but that looks an awful lot like the email that I'm using now however, that's the other social club account. So steam was trying to auto log me in to that one, but that email also belongs to the other rockstar social club account that I actually have the login for. But the login doesn't work for it when I put it in.

Did you ever get this resolved? I’m in the same boat and have spoke with a representative 4 separate times.

I gave up, it's a waste of time, Rockstar is a trash business. They have effectively prevented me from buying anymore of their games. lmfao their loss.

I have the same issue, been chasing Rockstar everyday, but they have stopped replying after I sent them my Steam ID, proof of purchase, CD key, etc. The email address for the Social Club I do not recognise, not helped as it is stared out. Also support from Steam is a pain, surely they know the details of the Social Club account as it use to auto login in from Steam? All I need to know is, is my account compromised and if not, what is the email used for logon and the password used so I can play GTA/Red Dead again.

Steam isn't going to give you the email/password for a 3rd party account. If it trying to automatically log into an account that you don't recognize based off what they do give you.... chances are compromised (unless, one of those completely lost/forgotten/old accounts - hence spamming forgot password link/checking email).

You could argue that the way it used to work was - you hit play on steam, steam sends for authorization from R* by sending your steamid, R* says, yep, that steam account owns a gtav copy - and just lets it play on the 'linked' social club account without a login.. for easy explanation. Before June2023ish or so you hit play on steam and it did not matter what your email/password were - it simply worked without requesting credentials. It was tested many times with different email, pass - steam would just let you on. This method also meant a steam account theft = access to gta.

Now, it doesn't login automatically - and many are finding out they no longer have access to their social club accounts (and some lost this access years ago - per the date on the 'email notifications' of email change from R*). Hurray for account responsibility.

edit - below - yes, exactly what we've been saying for years.

So regarding this, I might have had similar problem and got it resolved. Hopefully it is related. I recently lost my social club account to which my Steam GTA V is linked with, where I no longer have access to that social club account nor the email that is linked with that social club account. Obviously my steam account kept asking for that previous social club account to login to my game. So, I connected with Rockstar Support on 3rd Dec regarding that issue and requested them to change it another mail. Rockstar support changed my old social club to a new mail I've provided and resolved it today. I can now access to my social account and game through steam.

Rockstar are a bunch of clowns for this. Long time customer punished for being a long time customer by their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DRM. I bought rdr2 and I can't even play it because of the account I set up 15 years ago with an email I haven't used in ages.

having the same issue. the supportdesk is just a bot asking for question.
After 4 threads automattically being resolved i lost my temper. trying to spam them via X showing pictures of their rediculous supportdesk.

my case: i used a old email address for rockstar which don't exsists anymore.
the response i get: we've sent you a code to that email address. respond back with that email address.

When you response, the bot will continue with the regular questions about cd keys and screenshots etc...

Damn this company is a scam
If this discussion is still a problem, my only advise is to make sure you're signed in to whatever account on your launcher that is linked with steam, then with launcher open launch game through steam and make sure to click "gta online". game should launch fine into a server. the problem in the discussion may be much bigger than this simple fix but hye.
