Extracting the radio song files
I want to extract all the songs i like from the various stations and load them into self-radio. i noticed the audio files are .rpf format. Quick google search led me to a program called OpenIV that says it can extract them. Just wondering if anyone knows about or has done this before i bother trying.

because then i assumed would run into the issues with the songs having less volume in self-radio unless they are converted to some specific format. i still have that problem with half the stuff i try to put into self-radio. i figured at least this way they are all ready to go with no hassle.

Yes it works so long as you extract them as .wav files. They can be pretty large because they're uncompressed (They sound a lot better than they do copying off of YouTube). It works for GTA IV radio files as well FYI, I've got 100+ songs pulled from both games on a playlist on my phone plugged into my PC speakers so I can turn the in game music off and fiddle with it without having to alt-tab.

I think pretty much everyone who either uses or makes either GTA IV or V mods uses it. Its by far the easiest way to add custom vehicles or add custom models or textures over existing ones. Its also good for taking copies of packed files, in this case audio files.

So long as you don't select edit it won't let you change anything either, so you won't accidentally break your game.

Its probably easier to just find a track list and download the songs seperately since the radio stations in this game are all 1 file per station, so you'd have to chop it up into seperate tracks..

Erm ... no they're not. They haven't been done that way in a GTA game since Vice City.

GTA San Andreas onwards has had dynamic radio stations where the DJ's will have different comments about things like the time of day, weather and progression though story. You can't do that if the entire radio station is just 2 hour track.

Well, technically you could, but it would be way more complicated and not worth it.

That's what the radio files look like.

You literally right click them, click Export to WAVE (.wav) and select where you want to copy it to. It really isn't that difficult.

This has worked out great. Ash: do you know where the files for "The Lab" station are located though? i can't seem to find them.

EDIT: NVM.. found it. it's under Patchday3NG in the UPDATE>DLCpacks folder. Unfortunately, looks like The Lab is just 2 solid files like Heartwork420 warned of. That explains why the DJ's always say the same thing before playing "Welcome to Los Santos" etc.
