I own the game and the files won't work without the key registered into steam. I know because I disk move my games from One ex-pc to another and files go wrong all the time.
There is no need getting pirated version from torrents .
Feyrom, I refer to the Steam Backups. Are those limited to the direct owners or are they compatible as long as you own the game? I understand what piracy is but that's not what's being asked here. I'm asking about the Steam Backups and if they could in therory fix errors within Steam.
Basically, if you get the files from someone elses install and copy them to your Steam install directory it will work. Obviously you have to own the game and have the appmanifest_271590.acf file present in your Steam directory, as long as the files are in the right place you should have no problem.
I believe it is the same for the disk version, as long as the files are all present in the correct directory and you have a game key regisered to your account it will work.
EDIT - The Steam version files are identical to the disk version, but the disk version will obviously have out of date files and will need to be updated via the launcher before being copied for use in Steam.
I'm not sure about the Steam Backups. I've never used the feature, as I have all my games on a seperate hard drive that isn't affected by Windows installations and such.
I would suggest that you edit your OP if your true intention was about Steam Backups rather than torrents. Putting "torrent", "distribution", and "game files" or any combination of those in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence is...as far as I'm aware, against the ToS and Community Guidelines...
There is no other way to get Steam version , it is only digital .
No mater what you need to download it ,
If you talking about to get steam files and distribute them in retail , that is not going to happen .
Retail versions are only R* Social club Non steam , there is a way get retail version working on steam .
But if you have R* social club version key , you out of luck , it will not work with steam no matter what you do
My Spelling is not the best because I'm just done with every pc right now
Define developer for me in the context that you're using it in? That's a very vague statement. You could be a site developer for a construction company for all we know. I'm pretty sure you mean video game developer, in that case, I don't think you understand how networks or networking works at the very least.
When you verify Steam files on a freshly installed and played game, Steam will report 1 file missing, which is Installscript.vdf (or something of the sort). This is Steams automatic install/first time setup script which installs all of the redistributables and such. There's no actual GAME prevelent file missing.
EDIT: I might come off as condescending or something of the sort in the second paragraph, but be assured that it's not my intention, just trying to clarify and understand fully what you mean.
2. The steam download was fine until I disconnected and came home to it being stuck at 23.3 something when it actually finished so moments of trying to fix it I just deleted it and restated the download with what files I knew were okay. Last night it finished and it decided to update. This morning disk write error all over and it can't download.
One thing I know I used to do is have old backups using either the feature or actual downloads of certain files to speed up the process in case of this. Unfortunately I don't have many friends with a working copy of GTA V Steam version to try and do manual copy and paste. The verify even came up with 34 missing files which was really fun. So stressful day in heaven.
Edit: And the whole like I understand point references my part as when I used to do closed betas within family and close friends they would need a USB of an update because the servers I owned couldn't send them right or they themselves were experiencing some issue where everything just doesn't want to read/ write.
1. Forgive me for being skeptical, but could you prove that?
2. That seems like your fault to me...shutting a PC down or a network (your internet) during a write cycle that requires it is pretty bad. Hence why nearly every game tells you not to do that when you save or load.
3. [RELATED TO MY SECOND POINT IN MY PREVIOUS POST, NOT YOUR THIRD POINT] If you know how servers and such work and if you're a video game developer, wouldn't you know the answer to the question in your OP or on the same token, what you've clarified to be your question?
4. I do have a working copy of GTA V. Seeing as this conversation is kind of getting off topic, I suppose I'll add you and see what we can make happen/do. Not sure if I'd be willing to distribute files to you or for you, but I'm sure we can work out a solution to your copy not working and others or something of the sort.
EDIT: 5. Yeah, again seems like issues that are your fault due to overlooking certain things and such.
