optimization is TERRIBLE
I see everyone saying since the release that this PC port is of much better quality than that of the 4, it's totally false, there are plenty of things that are wrong and have even broken over the updates. day

-the anti-aliasing management in this game is TERRIBLE, you have the choice between a completely useless FXAA (the most crummy fxaa I've ever seen that blurs the game without removing the aliasing, as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as the blur of GTA 4) or MSAA/TXAA whose integration has been completely botched, the MSAA applies to each blade of grass or transparent texture which makes the framerate will dip in areas where the vegetation is dense , we go from a game that runs at 100 fps in the city which will be halved in the forest, it's very unpleasant, in the end the best thing about this game is to use Super Sampling or DLDSR to limit the performance gaps between city and forest

-a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bug that appeared with an update and hasn't been fixed for several years: when you activate the advanced shadow distance in the advanced options, each time you restart the game if you have the misfortune to switch in the menu of the graphic options this one will be reset by default

-the management of shadows is catastrophic, they are only detailed on a limited perimeter around the character, i.e. 10m² maximum, the high resolution shadows do not change anything, the PCSS shadows improve this a little but in return the distant shadows will not be displayed more or suddenly appear/disappear when turning the camera

moreover the shadows, like the MSAA, pose big performance problems in the forest since each blade of grass leaves a dedicated shadow, with the shadows in high resolution + PCSS the framerate will be very low, combined with the MSAA you will have a game at 20 fps, awesome

And there is still no next-gen update to fix the anti-aliasing and shadows issues so far.

Boycott Rockstar for mercy they deserve it

It's not flawless but sure as hell is not as bad as 4, that was a truly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ port, especially when it still had GFWL.

In comparison - the gta 5 port is better than the gta 4 port.
Doesn't means it's a good port, rockstar are just bad at porting to PC.

I'll never buy another R* game ever again, but its because they can't even protect my credit card info on their own website. Not because of graphics.

Grass + MSAA kills fps but MSAAx2 is a must have to hide a little jaggies. Keep Grass to High.
Super-sampling will make some visual bug.

But there is worse : Water and Extended distance scaling. If you don't keep those to minimum, you will have drops without even spiking gpu like Grass + MSAA do.

The shadow box is bugged, it's better with Extended shadow distance to 0 but then you can see building shadows draw when flying...
Sometimes you will see a black square following your character, need to restart game...

Yo, I feel you, man. It's frustrating when a game doesn't perform as well as it should, especially when it's been out for a while and still has issues. But let's not go jumping to conclusions and calling for a boycott just yet.

First off, have you tried optimizing your settings? I know it's not ideal, but tweaking your graphics settings can really make a difference in performance. Maybe try turning off the advanced shadow distance or lowering your MSAA/TXAA settings. It's not a perfect solution, but it might help.

As for the anti-aliasing, yeah, it's not the best. But there are workarounds like Super Sampling or DLDSR that you mentioned. It's not ideal, but at least it's something.

And let's not forget that game development is hard, and there are often bugs and issues that take time to fix. It's not like Rockstar is intentionally trying to screw over PC players. They're probably working on fixes as we speak.

So before we go calling for a boycott, let's try to be patient and give them a chance to make things right. After all, they've given us some pretty great games over the years.

Lock the OP in the closet with a 2600 and a B&W tv set for a weekend, and he'll come away with a new perspective. Guaranteed.
