Is Trevor really a psychopath? (Spoilers)

He's often portrayed as one and stated to be one, however in my playthrough I tried to make him be a somewhat nice guy, by doing things like, not killing innocent people, not taking people to the Altruist Cult at all and instead taking them where they want to go, dressing him up nice instead of looking dirty/skanky, and otherwise not doing crimes that the game doesn't absolutely require me to do.

Now, obviously what I did in my run was my own choice and may not truly line up with Trevor's canon personality. However, there are some things he does in the story that seem out of character for a "psychopath." Allow me to state a few of those;

Despite being aggressive to Mr. K throughout torturing him, he seemingly feels bad for Mr. K if you cause him to die during that part, and he also lets him live after the mission instead of just killing him (which is what he was told to do.) It's possible that Trevor being aggressive to Mr. K while torturing him was just an act, because Steve was watching.

After The Third Way, if Trevor hangs out with Franklin, Franklin will ask him why he didn't kill Michael. Trevor admits that he felt bad to do so, because Michael has kids and stuff, and a few other reasons, and that's why he didn't, and he also forgave him. Which seems out of character for Trevor to say, compared to how he acts earlier into the game, as it really doesn't seem to me like Trevor would give a damn about whether or not someone has kids.

On top of the previous statement, Michael seems to complain a lot about Trevor being a psychopath, which is why he wanted to get away from him (but Trevor ended up finding him anyway) but after The Third Way, Michael and Trevor seem to have become close friends based on the ending cutscene, and some hang out dialogue. Is it possible that Michael sees improvement in Trevor, and that's why he's fine with being close friends with him now?

Despite being stated to be a drug addict, you don't really see him doing drugs much throughout the game at all, so is there a chance that, maybe throughout the game, he is trying to quit drugs? And maybe him doing drugs could have contributed to his psychopathic personality.

So, my question is, is Trevor REALLY a psychopath? At least at the end of the story? Because based on the things I said above, it almost seems like he may be a "former" psychopath, as he seems to become less crazy throughout the game, which could possibly be linked to what I said about him doing drugs.

Trevor is a serious mess psychologically. His insistence upon his own innocence in everything he does is based on the premise that his choices are forced upon him by the actions of others, that he honestly has no choice but to react the way he does so therefore the blame lies with them. He lives in a world of absolutes where the rules of behavior apply to everyone else since they are responsible for setting up the events that follow and he is simply a reactionary who is left with no choices and must respond precisely as he does and is therefore perpetually innocent no matter what he does. This position also sets him up in the role of being the sole arbiter of what "truth" actually is and no amount of reason or logic can unseat him as it all devolves into circular logic following his basic rule that he is only a reactionary and cannot be guilty of wrongdoing and therefore no one may sit in judgement of him.

You could do a College Thesis for your Doctorate on Trevor. I don't intend to dive so deeply into the subject so I'll leave it right there.

I am not sure if he is a psychopath or just mentally insane. Psychopaths engage in antisocial behaviour and do things like lying, manipulating and hurting others effortlessly and without any care about their victims. They often have superficial charm and can be very nice to people to make them at ease before "stabbing them in the back". Trevor feels more like a bomb ready to go off at any moment. I guess if the character Trevor existed irl he could be classified as a mentally insane person rather than a psychopath. He may also suffer from schizophrenia which is a detachment from reality with that mom issue and stuff. Would be interesting to hear the opinion of a psychologist on this matter

I think Trevor doesn't kill K simply because Steve told him to and his ego was bruised, so he decided to let him live as a "screw you" to Steve.

He seems like a good loyal friend to me, and I do not think hes a psychopath.

No it doesn't. It shows he has mental disorders, but it doesn't necessarily indicate psychopathy. Someone can be bat sh*t crazy without being a psychopath
