Black Box On Screen
Hi chaps,

I've spent the last sixteen hours or so trying to solve this problem but to no avail.

Yesterday evening for some inexplicable reason a black box appeared in the bottom right of my screen. I've no recollection of touching anything or changing anything so why it appeared for the first time in my life is beyond me.

Anyway, this chap had the exact same problem and fixed it, his black box is in the upper left, mine in the lower right.

https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/177246-black-box-screen.html

The thing is always on top and is even in game yet if I take a screenshot the black box doesn't appear in the picture.

The guy above says toggle through something in the taskbar but I've no idea what he really means. The position he mentions is for me "internet access" and I don't see anything in there.

I know there are a lot of computer savvy guys on here and I'm just hoping one of you can help me.

Cheers!

Would anyone know what icon the guy in the linked post on the last page is referring to?

I can't work it out and I'm at my wits end.

I'd open taskmanager and start ending non-ms programs and see if it disappears - because who knows what they (or you) have installed/running - a ss of taskmanager/processes may go a long way. Could even clean boot windows via msconfig, and enable some/restart til you can narrow down what is causing it - then focus on that, overlays, hotkeys, etc.

edit - things like nvidia overlays, msi voice control service (end/disable in services.msc) seem to be causing this for some too.
edit - webcam preview as well.
edit - and as mentioned below - monitor buttons/config. maybe trying another monitor to see if it moves (if possible), or powering monitor on/off/unplug is enough to reset it - or manual/google on trying a reset of the monitor's config.

Or find a app that gives you detailed info on whatever window you are mousing on.
example - process explorer - there is a scope/crosshair that lets you click/drag over a window and will/should highlight process details etc.

/goodluck

Thanks for the response mate.

I did begin closing things in task manager but I got warnings for this and that and as a 61 year old bloke that is very limited in pc knowledge it started to frighten the life out of me.

All I know at the minute is somehow I have a great big black box on the bottom right of my screen that I don't seem able to remove.

Yesterday I was a happy bloke gaming, today I'm a bloke going mental unable to game because of a huge black box on my screen that I can;t seem to remove.

Again, thanks for the response, it is appreciated.

Is it possible you have knocked the physical buttons on your monitor by accident?
Some monitors have button(s) for different monitor settings with one of the options potentially being this black box that you mention, just cycle through the options to remove.

No but thanks for the response.

I've now had this huge black box in the bottom right of screen for over 24 hours and I've no idea how I started it or how to remove it..

The linked post above seems to have a solution but I'm unable to understand what icon the guy is referring to.
Might be a bug in security auditing, some scummy person might be trying to hijack and steal your identity, check event viewer to see security logs.

The type of cyber crime, is over a 40 year prison sentence, sounds like a nice place to live for them, the best part they can't hack thousands of servers that will hold data to their conviction.

They can't out-think military A>intelligence, internet traffic security GEO-map positioning of threats, the software and the implementations of it, look up at the sky and see all the satellites recording earths movements and our inhabitants and think.

Thank you all for your responses, it seems Darksider may have been onto something and I thank him/her for that.

Earlier today after so many hours of messing about I just went nuts on the keyboard and played piano with it.

Yes I'm embarrassed for raging but it happened, the screen resolution changed and I got bings and bongs and in the end I decided on a system restore.

As the system was restoring the black box was still visible so I went through all the settings on the remote, TV, PC etc until I returned to HDMI/PC and lo and behold the black box was gone.

Now because of my childish foolish rage Google Chrome no longer seems to work and I can't bring up a web page so if anyone can help there it would be much appreciated.

Again, thanks to all responders, it is appreciated.
