Thruster inside my avenger

I bought everything they gave us for the avenger charlie upgrades but im disappointed I have to buy an all new Thruster and i cant even upgrade the darn thing inside the avenger and i cant use my original upgraded one in its place. so now do i have to buy a new one i cant even upgrade it. its pretty worthless when doing missions with it you cant defend yourself at all mid flight.

you can upgrade the avenger to hold a new thruster but your cant upgrade the new thruster and you cant move your original thruster into your avenger either.

iam guessing the intention is to use your avenger as flying fortress in hover mode for defense and simply use the thruster after wiping out every possible threat to collect mission objectives and return asap to your avenger

i wonder if it is compatible with older freeroam missions
