Massive FPS Drops on a 4090
So, I just got a new PC, and every game works fine except for GTA5. I've got all settings pushed to max, and I'm getting random massive FPS drops.

I've got a 4090 paired with a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900KS with 64 Gigs of DDR5 RAM so I shouldn't really be running into problem. Some people mentioned that GTA5 freezes randomly when you go over 120 FPS, but I've watched some YouTubers with almost the same specs as me having no issues.

Anyone got any ideas?

Best to play at 800 X 600 on a 4090

gta freezes going to 188 fps, maybe they are limiting their fps to 175?

Welcome to DirectX, the bloat and unoptimization that it is. Use Vulkan. Make sure your video driver is up to date and all should flow well. GL.

You have to set a frame limiter, try msi afterburner or in nvidia's control panel, the game is spazzing out above 140 fps, set the limit to 120

it's your CPU. it's not an extreme edition. Everything else looks. ok.

yes he needs at least the latest Intel Workstation Xeon cpu with 56 cores to run this 10 year old game :BC_ThankYou:

I feel like such a peasant when I played the game on a crappy i7 4790K with only 4c/8t in 2015 :lloyd_crying:

You'll notice this happens when you pause the game in singeplayer as well. The menu becomes super laggy. You have to limit the framerate below 200 or something, and bam it wont happen.

Hey I can confirm (4090, Ryzen 7950X3D and had massive hickups during gameplay):
1) Just open NVIDIA Control Panel
2) Click on "Manage 3D settings"
3) Set "Max Frame Rate" to 120
4) Start game
5) ENJOY

EDIT: even 140 fps works for me

I have fps drops when cpu hit high temperature, it could be cpu or gpu temperature and maybe hdd. You can check temperature with hwmonitor program, leave it opened while playing game it will show you min, max and current temperature.

Yeah, frame cap. And if that doesn't help then lock your e-cores before starting the game.
