AFK Timer is too harsh when you alt-tab

edit (for clarification): more specifically its the afk timer when alt-tabbing on a single monitor system.

Why is it you can be alt tabbed for sometimes less than a minute and you get kicked - yet if you just stand around doing nothing in-game it gives you approx 13 minutes?

THAT is what I am percieving as too harsh. Because the AFK timer penalises you for alt-tabbing (in my case to google cars simeon wants that I have no idea what they even look like).

I mean I'm so sorry I left your game for a few seconds, in order to find something to help me play your game...

Before the (albeit well meaning) suggestions come in... No I cannot use the play in windowed mode workaround to bypass this because I lose too many frames - fullscreen is my only option if I don't want the game to be a stuttery mess.

I would like to see the alt-tab penalty removed from the AFK timer. There's no need to punish people for having a single monitor.

If you're using a controller, just put a rubber band around right analog stick then afk as long as you want.

if you have a modern keyboard with flat keys, you can use an impact 10mm socket to weight down a key so you can still walk afk or dance, just don't turn off the display, make sure windows power settings are set to performance and disable sleep modes to prevent errors or false kicks when in private sessions to be safe.

Displaying out of the game is different, this is why people use the windows feature for multi-able displays and a second display so they can multi-task with another monitor set at a lower resolution.

well they cant take it off completely, for obvious reasons, but they could at least remove the penalty for alt-tabbing

To get around the alt tab thing, use windows borderless mode with the rubber band analog stick trick.

Don't expect R* to fix something that isn't broken. The afk thing is by design. As with most MMO and quasi MMO type games, they want to kick you in the nads as much as possible so
as to make the grind as difficult as possible. It's our duty to find the flaws in their design and use them to our advantage.

well if you can't remember web content or use steam overlay in-game, web access to use a search engine, really easy to use steam overlay and manually type in a search engine name and use it to find content on the game.

The most of the auto-kick timer count down is part of stopping cyber attacks or auto kicking you if you display out of the game after a few seconds, so what are you asking for,
to make it more easy to make everyone a painted target,
if you have seen a terminal emulator that can store scripts and program them to run a
script with an assigned commands with targets, that can be based on many types of cyber attacks, you would not be asking for security related things to be disable after,
if you seen what I have saw and know.

If you want to AFK go to one of your security cameras in either the Auto Shop, Bunker, Facility, etc. Just dont use the ones in your normal apartments.

That doesn't work anymore. Rockstar patched that long time ago. It still kicks you out from session after that 10-15 minutes. Tried on drug business security camera too, that timer still pops up.

If I got to get up or do something, I will call a cab and use the trip in it as my AFK.

But I agree, it is way to short.

Now that you brought it up, what do you guys think is a realistic and forgiving time frame?
I would say around 5 mins.
