why is gta online still p2p
p2p was an outdated method before gta online even came out, and is literally the sole reason all of these menus and things are even possible currently in GTAO
theyve made many many millions of profit on the game since it came out, would it be very outlandish to suggest they switch the game to run on servers instead?

i just really dont see why the game hasnt switched from p2p yet, its viable and would solve many issues

Where is it pay to play? Where is it pay to win, if that's what you meant?
You only have to pay if you want a starter boost, while Shark Cards are for either rich, or stupid people.
Nowadays I make ~20m a week solo, playing an average of 2 hours a day, and I don't pay shxt or get tired. There's thousands like me, then there's a few other thousand that spend 10€ to buy a car. It's not pay to play, it's pay if you're stupid enough for it.
I actually got the game with CESP, but everything was 10€, while the game alone would've been 7.99€, it gave me an office I didn't really use to start, and I think money that I used on a kuruma.
Get a friend or a guy that doesn't mind helping starters. I made my first 10m with the help of a friend that gave me high % in heists, made in a few days.

You don't make billions by spending it. Max payne 3 used p2p and was filled with cheaters. Did anything change? No, gtao and rdo are littered with them as well. And gta 6 online will still use p2p.

Yup. Cheaper to. gta6 will be plagued with the same problem 5 is now... probably more so.

p2p = Peer to peer, a type of network connecting two pc's together, to play games. It is cheaper to setup this than whole servers.

In many cases the latency is better if P2P is used, because the clients communicate directly with each other, the latency only gets worse if it's more than 2 ppl afaik. And it's cheaper using Amazon Web Services than using real Dedicated Servers.

P2P isn't outdated. it's still used in various games.
GTA was designed for consoles in particular, and console games are less vulnerable against 3rd party efforts to inject code.
Therefore p2p ist still a cheap and valid solution for many MP games.

Also keep in mind, the game is 10 years old, and its engine even older.
GTAO wasn't expected to be that successful that time, since GTA wasn't suppossed to be an MMO.
Online was rather supposed to be an additional feature for the main game, like it was in GTA4.

So it's very likely the RAGE engine wasn't designed to run on dedicated servers in order to host millions of players.

Because they are too cheap to get servers.

Perfectly logical response and likely correct in most regards.. but people never miss a chance to ♥♥♥♥ on Rockstar so this will be largely ignored.

because p2p costs them lower. these mfs' priority is profit, not security of their customers. r* really sucks, their games should be played less by people for teach them a lesson imo.

It’s all fun and game until you are in NA and your friend is in SEA and when you are in the same vehicle, the vehicle starts teleporting all over the place :(
