I talked to a server owner, and provided screenshot evidence of these processes.
My ball park speculation is, so sever owners know their mods can execute malicious content, pay to boost their server front page to get more executions.
I’m not saying it’s all fivem but if you design a launcher, it’s still their responsibility in rockstars eyes.
I’m brand new to fivem but not viruses/cyber security.
The server owner responded by banning me from the discord. Server owners/admins I found were complete incels. I think they target either females, or accounts with lots of $$$$. I have screenshots of pure incel behavior on top of fishy execution processes.
I would argue it's your responsibility to make sure what you are downloading is safe considering it is an "unofficial mod". It's no different than downloading any mod for any other game, the risk is always there.
I don't know what you downloaded and from who but caution is always advised when modding.
You don’t get a choice, you join a server and executes installations for you. Security risk 101.
Also I’m not stating to uninstall and quit playing, I’m just advising like you are to me to approach this community with extreme caution if you are a female, or have networth. I have not found the key logger yet, but there’s 10000000s of files
Either way evidence of malicious code and tampering with peoples property isn’t a good legal start..
Malware/Trojan isn’t exactly bad, but the question stands now is it a back door, for a server?
Well like I said, literally millions of people have downloaded FiveM in one form or another, if it was that common you'd be hearing a lot more about it. In fact, the player count is higher on FiveM than it is on GTA online.
When I hear language like this I'm not surprised you got banned from their discord, I'd bet money there is more to this story.
There really isn’t, my GF is a streamer so I decided to download the Fivem mod and investigate it before she downloads something shady on her work pc. I’m just a tech nerd my man.
Also whatever is executing is smart enough to crash a windows wipe, you have to do the power shell method, or external memory. Wipe/install and write over through Microsoft’s servers directly.
I work with AI, so if I’m not VM’ing, I usually have to wipe windows every few months. If you wipe windows enough you tend to gauge your PC’s speed.
Then I'm sure you know the internet is FULL of shady people, including GTA online (official). Stay sharp and stay safe as usual, but you can't just say "FiveM is full of malware/Trojans", it's not as simple as that. If it was there would be LOADS of documentation on the subject considering the player count, you aren't the only tech nerd out there.
Also, there's loads of articles that can be found on false positives concerning FiveM. Maybe do a little more research before calling people incels and making accusations lol.
Yeah I read that, and also found plenty of unpopular Reddit posts finding very suspicious files in fivem mods.
Sometimes suspicious files are required to make things work, especially when Rockstar doesn't want it to work because it costs them money. Then there's that group of individuals that get banned and have their own agenda, you can't believe everything you read. That's not to say you should just disregard it, just do your research and see what's what.
Generally when you have that large of a player base and you don't see a huge backlash, it's pretty safe if you make sure to get the software from the actual creators rather than from various people who might add their own surprises to it.
All that said, if you can provide proof then make your case, I haven't seen anything yet.
As a developer myself if I installed a server accessible back door to A-Z wipe your files. I’d be in prison.
I’ve had the thought myself now of knowing code I could insert X and execute Y and troll everyone. It’s scary when devs act on those dark void thoughts.
Is it an execution to troll, stalk, personal gain? Your guess would be as good as mine.
I’ve exposed valve for feeding google analytics but like this post got shunned and shamed. I will say also I wasn’t the first, but I was snooping files. Then found I wasn’t the only one to notice it.
So if you watch dirty videos on your mobile device with the steam app, googles knows ;)
Also what valve does it technically common and legal, even if I personally find it kind of invasive. I can assure you devs in the black market, aren’t always good people.
That isn't just Valve, that Rockstar launcher is pretty sus as well, so is that Facebook cookie that is always there despite never having visited any Facebook related site. I mean we could go on for days. Just because it's "official" doesn't mean they aren't doing shady stuff. Windows in itself is about as shady as you can get, don't even get me started lol.
