Can't change texture settings (solved)
Every single other setting works just fine, except textures ALWAYS defaults to "Normal"

Done a fresh clean install. Deleted GTAV folders in Steam.. %appdata%, and Documents and installed the game from scratch.

Made sure files weren't "Read Only"

Tried saving changes while in-game as opposed to the start-up menu. (didn't work)

Tried running the benchmark instead of applying settings directly (no dice)

Tried editing the "Settings.xml" file's <TextureQuality value> with no results (even applied "Read Only" after editing the file)

Tried to disable Nvidia Experience in case that was messing with things. Even tried "optimizing" it to the highest settings. Although Textures are set to "Automatic" regardless of the setting

I'm at a loss.. I have no clue wth the problem is. From searching I'm not the only one who's run into the issue, however none of the suggestions seemed to work.

Maybe you have your settings being synced by OneDrive or such, uninstall that malware.

Nope.. plenty of ram to spare. Ran the game fine maxed out a couple months ago but this is quite literally the only issue I'm having as weird as it sounds :/

Yeah I've had that uninstalled since I built my system :steamsad: Seen how that can affect other people when looking it up, but unfortunately that's not the fix for me :steamsad:

Hmm you ever edited any launch parameters, added arguments like -safemode? Have any mods installed?

So I JUST did another google search and found a working solution lol

There is this weird pesky little file in the main installation folder (Steam/Steamapps/etc) called "commandline.txt" containing a line saying

-textureQuality 0 -ignoreDifferentVideoCard

https://gtaforums.com/topic/972031-can%E2%80%99t-change-texture-quality-gtav/
A dude named Outlaw2k1 on the GTA Forums mentioned that deleting this file fixed his issue. Sure enough it fixed mine too :steamhappy:

Seriously curious as to how/why that got in there. Specially when I deleted all folders for the game and disabled any sort of cloud saves when reinstalling. That one line forcing texture quality is just super odd to me..
