You should be able to just install single player.
106 GB is a bit big now... but just want single player.

42.7+gb difference - and that is just dlc content, not what came with base game.

That said, to op, there are ways around the updates - like disabling automatic updates 'and' putting steam into offline mode to play single player, updates/downgrades, 'other methods', shenanigans with steamdb.info, and even/used to be some mods. Haven't personally tested this exact scenario (but it is something that fixes basically the same situation) but you could likely get an 'updated' appmanifest_271590.acf from a friend - and throw that into steam/steamapps with steam closed after the friend updated gta5 - and skip putting steam into offline. (infact, I usually upload that file 'here' within 2-6 hours of an update)

You could even go delete those dlcpacks if you wanted to recover some space - located in steam/steamapps/common/gtav/update/x64/dlcpacks - mp* folders. However, any verify files/future update will likely try to redownload it all again. Be sure you are prepared to never have that happen again to bypass their keeping storymode/online a 'seamless' 1 launch transition. The store page did say - requirements would change over time, hdd space included.

But yes, that has been a major complaint for a very long time.

yes they will
the winter update will presumably separate online from story
story will be by itself
online will be standalone as of this winter with the e&e update

In case its like RDO being a "standalone" then no, it won't be split off from singleplayer.

Though I agree with OP, there should be a singleplayer only installation, especially for offline play and mods.

If it's anything like red dead they use same map.

There is a standalone Red dead online for sale minus story mode and it's literally same size, 100+ gigs for both

Damn people still complain about storage like come on a 1tb hdd is cheap now

May not be for everyone.
I've been in that situation where I had barely enough money a month to feed myself on.
I couldn't afford to replace anything that broke in my PC (which it did) back then let alone have the luxury of upgrading anything in it.

After getting 100% completion there is nothing to do in story mode....maybe use some modifications for fun but it gets boring

Depends on the person, some people like replaying the same games and experiencing the same stories over and over.
Much like they enjoy re-watching a movie, or re-reading a book.

Frankly I don't get people who play something once and never touch it again, seems wasteful to me.
Like people who buy new consoles when they first come out, only ever buy 5 games on it and pretty much let it collect dust for 99% of it's lifespan.

It's just a big waste of money really.

well tbf u can install just story mode on an xbox 360 as they came on separate discs back then

Rdo standalone is not separated from SP, it's using same files with permitted access to story mode.
And tbh people who mod gtav story mode have access to bunch of online assets, so they benefit from online at least in some capacity.

No it's not.

The game was about 50 GB's when it was younger. And that's already with quite some stuff in online mode, like MC businesses, import/export, smugglers run, gunrunning etc.

I think, with just single player, this game would be around 30 GB's or less.

that usually how it goes with games that have in game rendered cutscenes. take tekken for instance...the game has like 50gb of cinematics lol and guess what!? they are all arcade ending videos with like 2 min duration each >.<

Complaining about file size is what console peasants do.

if you want rockstar to see something submit feedback at their website. otherwise like everything it will go under the radar. it is not likely for them to dump a lot of money into gta5 just for you though when they already announced gta6. i'd say they should focus on that and the next installment of gtao. they can separate them. why should they take any action over this after 9 years anyway?
