Dunno tbh, I have a top of the line PC, I guess the bottleneck is rockstar.

It depends on lot of things.
1. How strong PC you have?
2. How fast your internet connection is?
3. How's the computer (and connection of the player) you're connecting to - the host of the game session (it's a peer 2 peer game, there are no global R* servers for the game, except for save & profile data).
If you're playing solo (IO or whatever), then the 3rd point doesn't apply.

Also launching Story Mode first, then going to IO works the fastest for loading times. From there, you can find a public session, if you like, but since the newest DLC it's quite pointless anyway, better to stay in IO with friends.

It's funny, GTA5 today loads twice as quickly as it used to because a player found a bug, wrote a patch and publicised R*s incompetence. They implemented the fix and paid him some money.

Taking ages to load into online isn't unexpected on a full lobby, but maybe there's something wrong if your game is loading super slow into story mode...

I've seen the game load differently depending on the amount of players in the lobby. 0-about 5 players, load is very quick. 6 and above it starts getting longer the more players.

Loading into buildings is the same. I've waited 5 minutes to enter my nightclub in a full lobby, and go instantly in with a few players in lobby.

I'm guessing here, but I think if the lobby host has a crap connection, the worse loading times will be. Also, if PC, If there is a lot of lobby screwing going on with cheaters, all trying to do there own thing, will dramatically slow down loading.

Like said above, if loading into SP is long, then there might be an issue locally.

Maybe your home network is not good? Why not go to the operator to upgrade the service?

1. Be sure you don't Alt+Tab the GTAV's window (unless it's Windowed / Borderless).
2. Even if you alt tab it, the game must NOT pause both the game and sound. You can adjust it in the game setting.
3. Do NOT open Steam Overlay and R* Overlay for too long when the game loads.
4. Always load Story Mode first.

lol unexpected. Only incompetent devs have such crazy load times. Epic games are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but in technical terms they can actually program and do successful r&d. Rockstar are like a bunch of disabled chimpanzees. If I was wrong people who bought GTA5 and red dead redemption 2 wouldnt be stopped from playing due to the launcher and have to pirate it to play games they bought.

Rockstar/TakeTwo are so incompetent they increase piracy. Nintendo is the same way. Its exactly the same as the streaming war increasing piracy. If you force people to pirate it will encourage them to pirate stuff they can buy and watch/play anyway just because publishers and devs are moving the needle.

Its like how if you only want GTA5 SP you need to pirate. Its like what 40-50gb at launch and is like 105gb now? Publishers are unwilling to deliver the service of just gta5sp with less than half game size. Same with DRMless exe's. The publishers gain nothing through the drm its cracked as hell and yet they keep the drm so if you want no drm version you can only pirate.

It's probably something else. I have 980MB download and 980MB upload and it doesn't speed anything up. The problem is on Rockstar's end.

When I said it wasn't unexpected, I wasn't saying that it was a normal thing in games. Simply that loading into a full lobby on GTA is known to take longer than loading into an empty or solo lobby.

I can't really comment on the game size except to say online only without boring SP when, please?
