Trying to play online - Cannot create an online character

I have never played online for GTA V and when I try to launch GTA online through character selector or online through launching it says, "you must enter the character creation screen before entering GTA V online." I've tried looking up how to connect to a social club account but nothing lets me create a character. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

FYI public lobbies are full of hackers and griefers...if you want good people to chill with you can always add me on GTA V Social Club Emilia_R3ap3r me and my friends are as legit as it gets and will help you get established as much as possible

Thank you for the reply but my issue is when I select the gta online character it just tell me the message "YOu must create and online character" then the game closes. I get no
